What would the Berlin Wall look like - if it was rebuilt in Britain?
Well, like this perhaps -
An artist called Mark Gubb has spent the week with timber, cement and fake barbed wire for an unusual performance on Saturday. It's a re- enactment of the death of a teenager who tried to cross the wall exactly 45 years ago today.
Peter Fechter was shot by East German border guards and left to die where he fell, on the East side of the wall.
On PM tonight Nigel Wrench hears from the artist -- that's him in the foreground at a first rehearsal -- and we'll tell you why he asked us to keep the location a secret. And why do this at all?
This thread is looking a little bare (okay, don't all groan together!) so I thought I comment here on Eddie's trial car.
It wouldn't be a Co(u)rtina, would it, Eddie?
Strange to think that it's less than 20 years since the wall came down. I remember seeing the other part of the wall (the main one splitting the country) on a visit with school back in 1984. It was really eerie at the time, and hard to imagine what the las 17 years have been like for the people of both parts of the country going through reunification. It would be good to get perspective from the Germans about this in the future. Time to send Hugh out, I think!
Big Sis (1): Most people walk to court. How lazy can you be, m'lud?
Re the Berlin wall. I thought East German bricklayers would've done neater mortaring...
...Oi....Mark Gubb.....behind you........
Always wondered what Nigel Wrench looks like........
Where's the wall being built? Is it to keep the scots and welsh out? :-o
Or keep us from Scotland and Wales..
If they need some original bits of the wall, I have some in a biscuit tin that I knocked off with a hammer when I was there years ago.
If it were, Eric, if it were, not if it was.
1 out of 10 for grammar. See me.
100 lines pending... and they'll be nastier than 1,000 posts.
O Frances - thanks for that, I tried to haud my whisht on this one, but carped on another thread instead!
Stewart (6):
"Cor! What is it, Dad?"
"Hadrian's Wall, son."
"Cor! What's it for, Dad?"
"It keeps the barbarians out, son."
"Cor! Who built it, Dad?"
"Dunno son. The people on the other side."
Firedrake (10),

Valery (9), I see you have reverted to your full monicker. Is that in honour of the blog-birthday or are you just especially incensed by this faux pas?
Appy - well a bit of both actually! Fifi's email brought it to mind, and then Producer Whosit had a couple of howlers in another thread, and I just couldn't let him away with them. So Valery Pedant returned, possibly for a limited time only, catch her while you can!
