Eddie,
Couple of technical points: why do you insist on these things being in RealPlayer format? I could understand if it were a streamed excerpt of radio, but a frogger submission? Are MP3s verboten except for the podcasts?
Secondly, your "tweet" about "one IP address but so many names" - it might be one person with lots of sock puppets; or it might be a particular company or organisation, whose internet proxy presents itself to the outside world as a single address allowing all internal addresses to be run off a private range (e.g. 172.16.*.*). So everybody within that company would appear to use the same IP address.
Electric Dragon;
It may be that you have made Eddie's point for him (perhaps he will say more about this on the Blog?).
Let us say that one IP address is responsible for many comments to the Blog, but under many different names; following your own rule of thumb then either one person is vainly trying to conceal the fact that they appear under different names, or alternatively a company or organisation is directing it's employees to comment *en masse* for some undisclosed reason.
Either way I can't see any positive reason for doing so.
An individual could make a point of view under one name. They could then congratulate themselves under a variety of other names, spoofing the genuine contributors as to the scale of support for their particular PoV.
A company or organisation could do likewise, directing it's employees to try and get a raft of comments onto the Blog, all supporting that employer, which would likewise skew the overall picture. It would be like someone's relative in a competition decided by phone voting, making many hundreds of calls to tip the vote in a certain direction.
Either way it's highly undesirable. On 'The Beach' it's not a big deal. That's the place for pure daftness or for supporting others who are having a rough time for some reason.
But on any other thread with a serious topic it's akin to gerrymandering the line of debate and trying to pre-judge the outcome.
It brings into question the whole notion of Blog handles. I've (nearly) always used my name (except on the Beach where I have been known to appear as Fabio the masseur). So do many others, perhaps as shortened nicknames (viz. Fifi and Jonnie, to name but two). But many others conceal their identity for reasons only they know.
Eddie;
I'd be interested to know what that Twitter content signified, can you enlighten us a little please?
Si.
> Electric Dragon
I somehow doubt Eddie insists on anything to do with this, he'll be using the tools he has been given by the ´óÏó´«Ã½ or Siemens.
Si - As one also to adopt the odd alias occasionally (Captain Jack Sparrow for one), I agree with everything you say.
And I think I know exactly what/who Eddie is referring to.
RJD and Si: me too. Grrr........
Is it just me, or has the Song's timing got even more raggedy now it's officially posted?
Fifi xx
Ah well, I'll listen to the song when I get home, I guess...
I try to have only the one alias here, and no, it doesn't give away my real name (as Eddie and Fifi can attest). My reasons for this are for basic security as I've mentioned in the past. By having a name that does not give away my real identity, there's very little chance that I could give away any private details that could be misused. For instance, you all know that I travel a lot for work. Now, imagine I mention that I'm going to the US for three weeks (I'm not, btw, but it could happen). By having my name here, it would not take soemone long to track down where I live, and knowing I was not in would allow them to break in to my houise with impunity. A little OTT, I know, but I prefer to take precautions.
All that said, I'd be interested to know a bit more about your tweet earlier too, Eddie. Care to enlighten us?
Is there a bloggage? None of my earlier posts have appeared yet! Fifi - yes agree with the timing on our singing - I had problems at home getting my bit to fit with yours on my steam-driven computer but I thought once it reached the experts at the ´óÏó´«Ã½ it would be effortlessly streamlined (HA?!)
Yes - and somewhat short too?
Well, that does it. I've downloaded the final compressed version from Jonnie's site, and will place it on a CD for use in the car (together with other favourites such as the Laughing Policeman).
Val P (8) Yes indeed! What a pity, since the whole thing is soooo much more than the sum of its constituent parts!
Some quick points.
First of all thanks to Eddie and his colleagues for ripping the CD and actually getting a snippet on to the blog. As Shirley Porter once remarked when she decided to buy a Radio station -
"Every little helps"
The whole song (at a higher bitrate) as an MP3 is on the link below :-
As regards to the multiple names sharing an IP address Fifi and Mittfh have some knowledge about how people change identities as guardians of the little camstreams chatroom.
All very interesting - Big Brother is watching you!
Fabio the masseur - Simon!!!
Oh I need a lie down now!
RealPlayer extract: 34s, 32kbps
Full mp3 file: 3m30s, 192kbps, 4.8MB
It's like comparing a movie trailer on a 14" TV set with the full thing at the cinema - the two are evidently derived from each other, but that's about the extent of any similarities.
Oh, and the first few tentative steps to Frogger's Song Mk. II have been made - we've had samples ranging from one line to an entire stanza, all set to different tunes(!) By the 2nd anniversary, we *may* have collaboratively written and performed our own song, either agreeing on a public domain tune, or possibly one we've invented ourselves.
And that object I saw sailing past my window *may* have been a flying pig...
The song sounds great. Has any other current affairs programme -- radio or TV -- ever had its own spontaneous, audience-generated song do you think? I doubt it very much!!!
Jonnie;
Sorry to disappoint. It didn't fool Appy for a moment, nor a few others.
I'm still mystified as to how they picked me out under that accent....
Si.
Thanks Mittfh .. It's both the quality and the size that let the snippet down - however .......
Fabio Worrall!
On both the above factors?
You have no need to apologise!
Indeed Jonnie -- he was damned good at it ;-)
