Below, with a new FAQ, the new log in system from Monday...

Eddie Mair | 15:37 UK time, Friday, 4 January 2008

Our technical people have sent us this:

"We hope that the new system we are using (called 'DNA') will be much more stable than the old one, as it has already proved to be reliable in handling all the traffic from the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s message boards like the Archers and communities such as 606. This is the first time we've tried it on the blogs though, so if there are any teething problems please bear with us.

The new system has some differences, the main ones being that you will have to register with the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s Single Sign On system before you can post, and that the comments will be ordered with the latest comments at the top."

I think the "old" system knows what's happening. I don't think I've been able to make one comment today without getting sent to room 502....

    A question, Eddie:

Do the regulars need to resubscribe too? And will we be able to keep our (now rather hackneyed) alter egos?

    Another question:

Why doesn't the FAQs section cover the private arrangement concerning Fifi's straplines? You know, the bit about being on commission. Or is this a ´óÏó´«Ã½ state secret? How many guidelines does this contravene?

Just as well it isn't a competition, isn't it?

Mmmm... didn't I read a couple of weeks ago that the UK High Courts have ordered a review of certain DNA technology because it's been found to be unreliable...

I wonder, when someone has the time, could we "froggers" be told how the "PM" Blog came to be established in a format so different from that of "Today" and "Woman's Hour"?, whose format, it sounds like, "we're" now going to adopt...

Will my "bookmarks"/"favorites" link to the PM blog still work? Come to that, will the links work from other Radio4 pages?

I have read through the FAQ again and I can't see the answer.

Now will I be able to post this? Will anyone be able to read it before the 7th (for that IS the day)..?

Commiserations Sis cos I'd be gutted if I couldn't be Whisht. Its kinda nice to be reminded to shut up every time I think of commenting.
    :¬)

mind you, as work is soon to start and probably be overwhelming (when ain't it?) then maybe I won't have much time here anyway....

In answer to those who are wondering about all those straplines ... I sent in a couple of job-lots in November and December, and it seems as if Blogsy is a stranger to the notion of 'randomisation'.

The last ones into the drawer are the first ones out, apparently ... and do I see a penny of commission for my labours? Do I heck!

If Frances is right (which I doubt) and Blogsy fancies Fifi ... I wish he'd find a more romantic way of expressing it. Chocolates, flowers, shiraz ... so much more likely to melt a frogger's heart than a pile of old straplines you wrote yourself!!

Big Sis, Little Red et al I think you can change your nickname at any time. Your Member Name will have to be Little_Red (or somesuch) but the name that appears above posts (your nickname) can be anything you want. (There'll be an obvious link at the top of the page where it says "Hi Big_Sis [change nickname]"

The only issue will be that in the ´óÏó´«Ã½ blogosphere there will be 2 people both called "Big Sis". But as long as you're on different forums then there shouldn't be many problems (I mean, its been obviously the case for a while now, that there are 2 people with the same name on different blogs but no one knew)

    Molly, And others,

    1. Choose whatever username the system will allow, e.g. little_molly, or whatever.
    2. Then when that's done choose whatever 'nickname' you like.

You may find you can be username little_molly, but nickname Molly. I don't know whether nicknames are as strongly required to be unique as usernames.

We'll all learn as we go.

But somebody's username is Big Sister and, get this, their security question is "What colour is my bogie?", from which I knew that wasn't me ....

Anyway, as I already had an ID, and as I'd already registered Big Sister as my nickname, I shall retain that identity here, though I've also set up some alternatives by way of backup in case of 'fraud'.
