This beach.

Now, far be it for me to carp but ..... from personal experience, that is a very 'painful' beach and not one for lounging around. But it is a lovely view - so lovely, that it is even available as a screensaver on MS!

So is this the secret location of the royal honeymoon.

I think you're confusing it with Lyme Bay, Ellis. The Seven Sisters are the lead up to Beachy Head, on the south coast, between Seaford and Eastbourne.

There are always fossils in chalk, the ones I have are seashells. The hills around here are chalk and so we do not grow acid loving plants.

When I was replacing the guttering I used a piece of weathered chalk from my garden to mark the cutting and drilling positions.

I stand corrected, Looternite, you are quite right. The odd thing is that, while Lyme has made a big thing of fossil collecting (shops, etc., selling these at every turn), it is more of a close kept secret in the Eastbourne/Seaford area. This may be due to the steepness of the cliffs.

Fossils in Eastbourne? Hardly a well kept secret!

Perhaps that's why people don't collect them in Eastbourne, Lucien - they're two a penny ;o)

Yes the seven sisters. The first on is Haven Brow, each peak having a name..

Incidentally, the distant headland (first photo) is Beachy Head. You can also make out the Belle Tout lighthouse in its current position on the headland and which was a location in Life and Loves of a She Devil.

It's funny how, when you're very familiar with a landscape, you tend to take so much for granted, and it takes something like this to remind you how lovely and interesting it is.

Is that Lady Sue in the distance on her way to restock NC's?

Ln 8, I know it wasn't in the chalk, but I used to go to a place outside Winchester where they dumped loads of dirt from building sites. One was load of chalk rubble and I found a polished flint axe head in it.

We might be going you know where for you know what on Sunday at about 2.00.

Oh, now I remember I had an uncle and aunt, lived in Eastbourne when I was very young indeed. The name West Wittering also comes to mind but those early summers blend together into a confused haze of sunshine and ice-cream.

Ln 20, We have several pieces of Herts puddingstone. A nutty man across the street thinks all bits of it are on ley lines. I put a piece by his front door. There is a variation in the Cleveland (Ohio) area with pebbles in sandstone.

So Ley lines follow the same line as a warm sea beach line during the Eocene/Palaeocene Boundary 55 million years ago.

Meanwhile back on Beach Neutral - anyone for a game of beach volleyball? I'm sure we can think up a unique scoring system that will ensure the most number of players are (relatively) happy with the result, as opposed to the side that actually wins.

Ye Olde Fighting Cocks; the oldest pub in England.

I have a slide of that pub taken way back in the depths of history, it was taken by my father-in-law in the mid 1960's.

When I visited the pub in about the late 60's early 70's I didn't realise then that a famous American archaeologist would live in the area.

I have been to it many times when my youngest sister lived in the town and we used to have sibling get-together-weekends. They used to serve a wonderful draft 'Wheatbeer' and a rather delicious range of sandwiches. I keep meaning to pop back there when ever I have to visit on business but never seem to have time.
