Yippee kay yay - it's my 5 favourite movie cops!

1. Bruce Willis as John McClane in Die Hard 1-4 (above): Baldie Bruce has never been better as the ultimate weatherbeaten, hard-boiled, sarcastic cop who has a habit of being around when trouble looms.

2. Simon Pegg as Nicholas Angel in Hot Fuzz: Simon, Nick and director Edgar's comedy homage to macho cop pics hits the nail right on the head. Genius.

3. Frances McDormand is Marge Gunderson in Fargo: yep, she's a little eccentric (and with a rather 'special' Minnesotta accent) but under Marge's homespun exterior is a hungry crime-fighter. A classic Coen Brothers comedy thriller.

4. Peter Weller is Robocop in Robocop: Its 80s excess may now look a bit dated but Robocop's message about dealing with crime still packs a punch. Check the remake next year.

5. Leslie Nielsen is Frank Drebin in The Naked Gun 1-3: The most inept cop ever. Since Leslie was a veteran of 'serious' movies in the 60s and 70s he was a natural to send-up the deadpan moodiness of cop movies.
