Adventureland (pictured) Kristen Stewart is awesome in this 80s set comedy, with a nerdy guy (Jesse Eisenberg) falling head over heels for her in amongst the dodgems at the theme park where they work. Hilariously sarcastic and genuinely romantic. 4 stars.
Julie & Julia Meryl Streep heads for her millionth Oscar nod with this larger-than-life performance as 1950s chef Julia Childs, the inspiration for New Yorker Julie (Amy Adams) to start a blog about French cooking. Classy. 4 stars.
Sorority Row It won't challenge your brain cells, but this enjoyably trashy horror set at an exclusive girl's college has enough knowing comedy value to make it on the money. Oh, comedy value AND an incredibly hot cast. 3 stars.
Dorian Gray Dull, dull, dull adaptation of a English lit classic about a Victorian man who never ages, whilst his self-portrait slowly withers in his attic. Colin Firth has a laugh as an older gent with a stake in the story but lead Ben Barnes can't smoulder like he's meant to. 2 stars.
Whiteout Kate Beckinsale misfires in this fun vacuum, about a US marshall tracking a murderer in the South Pole. There's lots of snow, ice and people in huge coats. But not much else. 1 star.
Fish Tank Low-fi Brit drama about 15 year old girl with big dreams, slowly losing her mind on her claustrophobic housing estate. Dreamy teen pic with an impressively raw performance from unknown lad Katie Jarvis. 4 stars.
The September Issue Doco following legendary Vogue editor Anna Wintour as she puts together the latest issue of the fashion bible. You've seen it before in Ugly Betty and Devil Wears... - but this time it's all real. Engrossing. 4 stars.
You gotta love films like Sorority Row. You're never gonna sit and watch this college horror thinking 'Hmmm, I wonder what the subtext is in this?' coz it's all there, in your face, in its gory glory. And everyone is soooo good-looking. Seriously, there are so many hot women in this it's like The Saturdays have been cloned. But when everyone involved seems to recognise their film's limitations, even celebrate them, you can't really criticise. So there you go, it's another slasher pic with fit people in it (such as Rumer Willis and Brianna Evigan). And you know what, I'M FINE WITH THAT!

The man is a legend and I'd have him in every day if he was around. That's not likely as he's moved to Vancouver for the forseeable future to concentrate on the new Stargate series that hits the telly in October. 1. Little Miss Sunshine - a journey of nearly 700 miles, in a VW Camper Van, give an issue-laden family plenty of time to work out their problems. The result? A joyous dance routine to 'Superfreak' in front of a startled beauty pageant audience.
2. National Lampoon's Vacation - the original comedy road pic, with 80s legend Chevy Chase stealing the show as Clark Griswald, a well-meaning dad desperate to get his family from Chicago to LA's legendary Wally World theme park.
3. Thelma & Louise - a 90s groundbreaker about two women on the run from the police, driving a '66 Thunderbird towards the Grand Canyon. Big time emotional stuff.
4. Dumb & Dumber - Harry and Lloyd are probably the two people you'd least want to be stuck in a car with, especially on the long drive from Rhode Island to Colorado. But Jim Carrey turns stupid into such an artform, you can't help but chuckle.
5. Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert - currently a stage musical, this Aussie pic wowed audiences 15 years ago with its cheeky send up of the outback. You might expect tough guys driving across the Australian wllderness, but not 3 drag queens with serious bitching problems.
(500) Days Of Summer - the rom-com of the year that's not quite a proper rom-com but seeing as it's both 'romantic' and 'comedic' I'll call it one. Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel are the cuter-than-cute couple who can't quite sit back, relax and enjoy their relationship. Smart, sassy and with plenty of cheeky winks to the audience. Quite lovely. 5 stars.
District 9 - the sci-fi of the year, that just beats Star Trek by being so full of surprises. Big ups to unknown South African director (Neil Blomkamp) and unknown South African star (Sharlto Copley) Yes, they love the FX and action in this tale of an alien ghetto on earth - but this is also emotionally gut-wrenching. Prepare yourself. 5 stars.

1. Jack Black is Mr Finn in School Of Rock. Every pupil's dream - the teacher who's more interested in jamming than hitting the books. Moyles liked him when they met up, too...
2. Robin Williams is Mr Keating in Dead Poet's Society. Old-skool feelgood from the once-great Robin, here inspiring posh public school boys to wallow in the beauty of poetry.
3. Alan Rickman is Professor Snape in Harry Potter 1-6. Creepy he may be, but his unflappable calm (and emo haircut) make him way cooler than any of the other Hogwarts eccentrics.
4. Arnie is Mr Kimble in Kindergarten Cop. The toughest star of the 90s losing his cool in front of a bunch of toddlers is NEVER NOT FUNNY.
5. Tina Fey is Ms Norbury in Mean Girls. She's the understated heart of this teen classic; clumsy, ditzy and teaching Lee Lo all she needs to know about life. The clever clogs wrote the screenplay too.
