It’s Springtime in Paris…

…I know that because I’ve just enjoyed a couple of glorious days in the city of love. Truly, it is the most wonderful backdrop for romance …. a kiss at the Eiffel Tower, a stroll hand and hand along the Seine, a blazing row at Notre Dame – yes, it might be romantic but you’ve got to keep it real.
This is actually only the third time I’ve ever been there, but I intend to be seeing a whole lot more of it. You see, ‘my man in Milan’ has just become ‘mon cheri a Paris’, for a few months at least, and I plan to make the most of his time there …..that is if we ever learn to accept the fact that men are from Mars and women are from Venus, and he can find an apartment that doesn’t cost a small fortune to rent. Honestly, 2,000 euros a month for a studio - in other words you sleep on a fold out couch in the living room – and believe me we are talking Parisian pokey not Manhattan ‘loft style’ living – and it’s almost certain to be in what were once the servant’s quarters. Mind you, with property prices the way they are in Northern Ireland why should I be shocked!
Of course what these Paris apartments all have is an abundance of charm, unfortunately what they almost never have is an elevator. It’s amazing just how little oxygen there is left in your lungs when you’ve just huffed and puffed your way up to the 5th floor of a grand fin de siecle building….and with my dodgy knees as well! The view is worth it though, as is the food. Foie gras, confit de canard, blanquette de veau, crème brulee ….maybe it’s a good thing after all to have an apartment building without a lift!!
I shall keep you posted on the great ‘Location, Location, Location’ search and life with La Vie en Rose! I’m off now to take Ella for a walk with a view of the Harland & Wolff cranes – not quite the Eiffel Tower, but still my favourite Belfast landmark. I wonder how they’d look in Paris?
