E.A Sports Grand Slam tennis

Treble T | 16:55 UK time, Tuesday, 30 June 2009

Grandslamtennis.jpg1.jpg

While the tennis courts around the land are full of Murrays and Nadals hoping for a Grand Slam you actually have no need to leave your house. You can perfect your kick serve on the new tennis game on the Nintendo Wii is here!

So on first play this game seems almost impossible to win, but patience will pay off. The old Wii trick of flicking the wrist WILL NOT result in match winning shots but will just have you looking a little stupid with a remote in your hand!
Now real tennis strokes result in real shots like topspin, flat shots and slices (not peach ones), especially if you have the new Wii motion plus, even spinning the Wiimote in your hand results in a racket spin on screen(heavy!) I recommend you use the nunchuck as well otherwise you reliquish control of your players feet and he/she can easily get caught out on the wrong side of the court!

VIRTUA TENNIS 2009 REVIEW

Mike Anthony | 16:06 UK time, Tuesday, 30 June 2009

VirtuaTennis1.jpg

Wimbledon is now in full flow and the strawberries and cream are in abundance, so of course you know they had to bust both tennis games around the same time. I've decided to Iook at for Sega on the Wii. Whilst T looks at Grand Slam. Now let me say from the off, it also has MotionPlus just like Grand Slam. MotionPlus and a few new tweaks are the only improvements to the game. (That's if you class players stumbling over as improvements?). There's now on-line game play and a bit of a arcade feel to Virtua, which gives Grand Slam the slight edge over its rival.

Fight Night Round 4: review (by special guest reviewer DEV)

FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 4

Hey guys it's Dev (Mon-Fri 6-8am fame!) and I've been given the honor, nay the privilege of reviewing Fight Night Round 4. 'I want a good clean review, keep the comments snappy and above the belt and come out swinging'!!!

OMG! This is the illest boxing game ever made, it makes other sports simulators look out dated and weak. You can actually see beads of sweat gathering on the oppositional players brow then trickle down his face as you connect with a well timed jab. In the slow motion replays, you witness that killer knockout punch administered by your chosen boxer in all it's glory; shockwaves rippling across your unfortunate opponents face as his eyes roll back confirming his lights are officially out. The shorts move realistically, the crowd sways and rises convincingly, and every character has been crafted as close to the real person as possible, without freaking you out!

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen review

TRANSFORMERS : REVENGE OF THE FALLEN

Now after seeing Transformers 2 "The Rise Of The Fallen" TWICE, (DON'T LISTEN to the negative comments about the movie. It was thoroughly enjoyable). I wondered would the game live up to the hype or fail like so many movies that have been transformed (excuse the pun) into games in the past.
Right I'm going to be positive from the start! The fact that I could be Bumble Bee or Optimus Prime, transform and mash up everything is a good look in my book.
The motion and game play is quite smooth, but a little awkward. You can be a Decepticon or an Autobot and more or less follow the plan of the movie. Optimus, Ironhide and Megatron sound really good. But when did Bumble Bee get his voice fixed? And who voiced the human characters? It sure as hell didn't sound like Shia LeBeouf and Megan Fox!

What's your fondest gaming memory?

Treble T | 10:54 UK time, Thursday, 25 June 2009

A couple of days ago Sonic celebrated its 18th birthday, congratulations!! Anyway it got us thinking about the 1st games we used to play like Pac-man or Street fighter on the Snes. I remember playing Outrun in the arcade inside Streatham bowling alley in South London!!! And I will never forget going to Thorpe Park and watching someone complete Dragons Lair (The 1st cartoon game) with my jaw on the floor!!
TTT

Now two games that stick in my head when I think gaming is Defender (Arcade style) and Altered Beasts on the Mega Drive. BRAPPPPPPPPP! I can remember going to the arcade in Tooting south London and spending my pocket money on that flipping game. Altered Beast was the first game on the Mega Drive that I ever completed without sleep.

What's your fondest gaming memory? What did you first clock or see being clocked?

GHOSTBUSTERS - The Video Game Review

Mike Anthony | 14:55 UK time, Friday, 19 June 2009

ghostbusterslogo.jpg

Now I've never been a fan of the movie, but I have to admit after stepping back and trying to be objective the real Ghostbusters have returned! This videogame sequel has been released to mark the 25th Anniversary of the originial release of the Ghostbusters movie. The original cast members, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray are back together again in their roles as Spengler, Stantz, Zeddmore and Venkman. Which makes this so authentic. The only person missing is Ray Parker Jnr (WHO)? Maybe he's too busy doing 118 adverts to the Ghostbusters theme!!

Anyway, Manhattan's overrun by ghosts and other supernatural creatures. You take on the role of a new recruit joining the original, famous Ghostbusters team. Equipped with unique weapons and gadgets, espeacially a great energy back pack that gives you your energy readings as well as zapping power. You will hunt, fight and capture a wide range of ghosts and demons. This is a game that appeals to everyone and ranks quite highly, with on-line game play, beautiful graphics and a funny story line it delivers on all fronts.

BATMAN - ARKHAM ASYLUM PREVIEW

Yo what's happening? Got a little hot one for you with Batman Arkham Asylum. Now don't get jealous, the game isn't complete, its just a little introduction to the fighting techniques and graphics to the game that's scheduled to drop 25th August. Unreal Engine have done the graphics (Gears Of war) and the moves are slick. Third person beat 'em up that has the potential to be very very good. Check out the trailer and watch this space for the full review.

THE OSCARS OF THE GAMING WORLD IS HERE!

Mike Anthony | 14:30 UK time, Tuesday, 16 June 2009

Now peeps, this year has had some serious ups and downs, companies closing down, repossessions, redundancies, job cuts the list is endless. Very few industries have been making serious profit....! Hold tight the bailiff companies. (don't just love dem?)
Well the gaming industry has made a serious amount of money in the last 12 months. Why go out when you chill out at home and play games all night? You can even keep fit with your Wii in hand and it won't cost you anywhere near a weekend out with your other half or mates.
The biggest gaming award ceromony is fast approaching and I'm voting for Call Of Duty as the best game for 2009! If you don't agree you better vote yourselves.
What has been the best game to come out in 2009?
What's been the best handheld game or which game has ha the best soundtrack?

This Week's Games Reviews

INDIANA JONES AND THE STAFF OF KINGS

Fancy getting your whip out? Wanna play with my Moses staff? Well all that and more pops off in this Indy game for the Wii.

I had a lot of fun playing this because there is so much movement required with the Wiimote you end up feeling knackered and looking stupid in your front room! Basically everything Indy does in the movies you have to do in the game, punching nazis, flying bi-planes, swinging across crevasses and other adventurer type stuff are all controlled with your Wii remote and nunchuck. Takes some getting used to but after that all you have to worry about is your arms getting tired. It includes classic scenes from the previous movies and Indys in game jokes are sometimes actually funny. (a 1st for games) A good game for the whole fam especially the closet Lara Croft or Indy fan. So you and your partner could play it cos theres a cool doubles mode (Watch out for black eyes though!!). I liked it......

PROTOTYPE

Are you into gory games? graphic game you've ever played?
Today I'm looking at prototype, you play Alex Mercer, a very confused man who wakes up on an operating table with no memory and a lot of questions. Like.... why am I shape shifting while running up the side of a building then slam dunking a tank?
GOOD Question! Last I checked absorbing peoples, memories, powers, special abilities and physical identity wasn't in my job description. But..... I like it, WOOP WOOP!

Set in New York City, hide amongst the population and discover the truth behind what's happened to you? It's a conspiracy I tell you!!
This is a very entertaining game with an original story line, even learning the moves was enjoyable. Its one of those games you have to play and decide yourself if its for you and don't listen to critics. (only me) Graphics are good, controls easy to learn but watch out it's dark and intensely violent. In fact the only word that spring to mind is SLAUGHTERHOUSE! I wonder if I could absorb Treble T and turn him into a toilet. We all live in hope.....

IS YOUR PARTNER TOO ADDICTED TO GAMING?

Mike Anthony | 13:36 UK time, Monday, 8 June 2009

Some people have actually split from there partners because of gaming. Does your other half play video games too much? Is it causing arguements? Or have you found the perfect partner who enjoys gaming just as much as you?

Listen to what 1Xtra's Sarah Jane and Ace think of the topic....

Boom Blox Smash Party Review

Treble T | 14:54 UK time, Friday, 5 June 2009

A fun game for the Nintendo Wii which is based on you throwing or shooting stuff on screen with your wii-mote. Different modes include clay pidgeon shooting where the targets whizz towards you on screen, and you can compete with someone for who hits the most targets and ball throwing where the harder you swing the remote the faster the thrown ball moves. Not much fun on your own but with a couple of friends or kids it goes off.
Rated: A family game rated at 3+.
Available on: Wii
Rating: 7/10

Transformers the game(preview)

Treble T | 14:35 UK time, Monday, 1 June 2009

I managed to get a sneak preview of the new Transformers game last week. Its an improvement on the 1st game thats for sure! I didn't get to see any of the story mode but the multiplayer looks and feels kinda cool. The control method was a bit clunky when transfoming into a car or whatever but it was good fun nonetheless. Watch this space for a full review when we get our hands on it.
