What are your current top 5 games?

Mike Anthony | 14:39 UK time, Tuesday, 21 July 2009

prototype-man.jpgOur 1Xtra DJ mate Mr Ronnie 'Ranking' Herel asked myself and Treble T what our Top 5 games are at the moment .......... With a bit of thought and consideration, this is what we came up with this .....

1. Straight in at number 1 is the heavy mind blowing 'Prototype' Please note that this game isn't for the really young or faint hearted.

Infamous-Game-Images.jpg

2. Our number 2 is 'Infamous' the graphics on this is amazing!!

fifa-09.jpg

3. Number 3 has got to be 'Fifa 09' if your into your football this is the one, some may argue it's all about the Pro Evo, but for game play this is so realistic it's incredible how accurate the players are..

modern-warfare-jpg.jpg

4. In at number 4 is 'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare' this is a game that will keep you going for months... or in Treble T's case ages and ages. Please be aware that this game isn't aimed at the very young or faint hearted.

I haven't played 4 out of the 5 you mentioned but here is my top 5:

    1. Pro Evolution Soccer (PS3) - How you can say Fifa has the better gameplay is beyond me, for eons now people have argued both sides case, but Fifa always wins on presentation and graphics rather than actual gameplay everytime !

    2. Grand Theft Auto 4 (PS3) - The Grand Theft Auto series has always me hooked, and the latest instalment is no exception. Massive city (even though its smaller than San Andreas), brilliant missions and jaw dropping graphics

    3. Advanced Wars - Dual Strike (Nintendo DS) - although this game is 4 years old I still play it to this day, brilliant strategy game with cute manga like graphics. Turn Based command & conquer style game but without the layers of complicated narrative that the C&C series has, an easy pick up & play game which with the number of maps & characters & machines means it can turn into one of the most lastable games around !

    4. Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of Patriot (PS3) - Again the game is a year old but I still play it simply because i haven't completed this on the hardest setting. Brilliant stealth tactical gaming is back, great plot and even better weapons make this the ultimate Snake adventure

    5. Battlefield 1943 (PS3 - PSN) - one of the first downloadable games i've bought, and well worth it, especially for a tenner ! although there is no single player, the whole point of this is multiplayer capture the flags on different island Maps in the 1943 pacific war, great FPS, authentic WWII weaponary, machines (Tanks, Jeeps, Planes)

    I think games have been slacking lately man, theirs been like a slump in the gaming output over the last few months so i've only been playing 2 really, there order is as followed;

    1. Counter-Strike:Source (PC, MMOFPS) - This game as a HUGE online gaming community, and the likes of Call Of Duty 4/5, Left 4 Dead, and any other shoot 'em games have not been able to slow its increase, the Graphics aren't top notch anymore but they were when they came out, it was one of the first games to have a completely interactive environment to my knowledge. The game play is what makes this game though, from the moment you play this game you will understand the skill level between a professional player and a recreational gamer, not through cheats or secrets, but from reaction time and accuracy, because of this fact, many competitions have been formed with prize money reaching up to $100,000! and it even has a cyber sports channel on Sky dedicated to it!

    2. Street Fighter 5 - (XBOX 360, Beat 'em ep) Classic street fighter with cell shaded graphics, fast gameplay, hundreds of thousands of skilled players? nuff said??

Here's my top five (in no particular order.)

#1. Grand Theft Auto IV. Every time I load up the game, its a new free roaming experience. Whether its pulling off crazy stunts, or casually exploring the map. Outside the main story mode, Im still discovering new things to do. The graphics are photorealistic, and the story is filled with likeable characters. Brucie is my personal favourite!

#2. Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. This might be a couple of years old, but the game play and graphics are still fresh. (Everything from the lush jungle setting to the water looks amazing.) The story has plot twists of a 'From Dusk Till Dawn' proportion, and the dialogue is funny and sharp. I thoroughly enjoy the story. The treasure hunting makes for good replay value. Nathan Drake is a really likeable hero, with more than a passing resemblance to my favourite actor Nathan Fillion. (Firefly/Castle.)

#3. inFAMOUS. Being a superhero is a total riot! The hero/villain option brings replay value. I love the comic book style cut scenes and presentation. The characters dont look convoluted. Climbing buildings and gliding along railway lines is fluid and a lot of fun in my book. Running battles against the evil reapers can be tense, and rewarding with the upgrade system. The blast shard and the satellite dish side missions are a good change of pace to the explosive fighting.

#4. Tom Clancys Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. I remember falling in love with the first one (on Xbox), but the sequel is much better. The ability to command up to six team mates at one time is a thrill. Visually stunning graphics, intense fire fights and strategic game play. I love shooters that make you think tactically, instead of just spamming the trigger. Theres a good variety of air/ground support on offer, which brings a smile to my face in a crisis. The story is melodramatic and action packed, but not too silly. Its my favourite Tom Clancy franchise.

#5. The Orange Box. Theres a good blend of games here for the price tag. Portal is a refreshing change of pace, to the first person shooters in my collection. I like the lateral thinking approach to the puzzles, and the computers dry humour makes me chuckle. Overall, this game keeps me on my toes. Half Life 2 is just great adult sci-fi. The environments look textured and atmospheric, and completely immerse me into that world. The sound effects are meaty and realistic too.
