The ´óÏó´«Ã½ Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor began their 75th Anniversary season with concerts in Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen and Edinburgh and the reviews are coming in...

Week One

The first concert of the new season was at City Halls with the orchestra playing Wagner's famous . Ken Walton was there to and gave it a maximum five stars, commenting that "Season openers don't come much more thrilling than this."

, saying that "The entire experience was gobsmackingly wonderful...Everybody involved in the ´óÏó´«Ã½ SSO's opening concert on Thursday night gets five stars, a metaphorical bottle of champagne and thunderous applause such as can resound only in the City Hall."

, Donald Runnicles aficionado Tam Pollard reviewed the same repertoire but at a different venue, Edinburgh's Usher Hall, and said "Runnicles' direction was matched by superb playing from the ´óÏó´«Ã½ SSO, on the absolute top of their game."

was also in Edinburgh and commented that "Over the last few months I've become more and more convinced of how great it is to be a music lover in Scotland today." And that "Runnicles controlled the unfolding drama with the skill of a consummate storyteller."

Week Two

The second week of the new season saw the orchestra back at City Halls with Runnicles and violinist together again for a concert featuring Berlioz, Brahms and Beethoven. and gave the concert four stars commenting that "The SSO under Donald Runnicles are a confident bunch"

was again handing out five stars and was impressed with young violinist Vilde Frang.

was there and said "Runnicles may only have been in post a year, but I would argue that the ensemble's already fine sound is changing and improving."

Next up for the orchestra and Donald Runnicles is a whistle-stop tour of Austria and Germany. Then it's back to Scottish business in early November with new Associate Guest Conductor picking up the baton for first time in his new role for an evening of Mozart and Brahms. Exciting times!
