The game might be unimpressive. Malta is famed for its defences, notably agaist German visitors. Malta Hibernians have, in the past, secured 0-0 draws against ManU and Real Madrid.

Yes everyone seems to get the tennis fever this time of year, I just don't feel it myself. Good short blog though, interesting to know European qualification starts so early. When do the welsh, Irish and n irish teams come into it? Fairly soon as well I'm guessing.

Steve, no Blog (and a general lack of interest) in the Under 21s reaching the final of the european championships tonight... Man U sell Ronaldo and thier were like 15 blogs on it... The cricket idea, sounds like when we were kids, we had a game with a cricket bat and a tennis ball down street (back in the day) called "keep the kettle boiling", it was non stop and knackering, but proper fun. If you really need to watch some football, CONCACAF Gold Cup is about to start this Friday... there will be plenty of B squads, including the US which will rest key players, but nevertheless it could be interesting.

Football could be whittled down too. Certain football clubs I won't mention could form a breakaway set-piece league, similar to US football but using corners, free kicks and throw-ins. Or have they already done that?

I like my football as much as the next man, but honestly, just a few weeks of no matches would be good. Can't we at least have July as a no football month? We can all talk about it, write about it, watch replays of it, but no actual games please!

The season ended after the international qualifiers a few weeks ago.

I for one cant stand cricket and can only watch the ladies tennis matches for obvious reason (uh hmm). Only way to keep sane now is to put some hours on football manager and when im not doing that ull find me playing pro evolution and when that seems to lose my attention ill just be kicking anything I can find around the house that resembles a ball until pre-season kicks off.

I suspect the English have a "dislike" of Murray due to his comments about "supporting anyone who is playing against England" during the last footy World cup.

I'm a rarity - I was born in Gibraltar which makes me truly British so I don't understand all the hatred of the English by the Celtic nations.

How can consider racism as an arguement because someone dislikes as Scot? That makes no sense. People do not like Murray because he has made it abundently clear of his dislike for England; just liek the average Scot. We neighbours have never got on, so what is all the fuss about?

Murray IS grumpy, even in Scotland. And his ma seems permanently to be sucking on an acid drop.

The PR people have softened up the image a bit, but it's still a difficult pairing to warm to.

Are you saying that only people with university scholarships should be writing blogs on a bbc sports page? It's an opinion - you don't have to agree with it! If you are, as you claim, such an important contact of the bbc, then why are you having to go on the website to express your opinion. In South America the season does not have the break we have and just kind of keeps rolling on.

I do think we should have a break but only to get in our international games. Come to think of it what about England playing all their qualifying in the close season instead of during the season. Surely this would free up time during a hetic season and give the squad time to gell? The games could be played in the summers before the finals?

The Maltese love their guns. They love using them. There is virtually no wildlife left in Malta; it's all been shot.

The last time I was in Valletta, there were no seagulls anywhere along the vast harbour. The gulls know not to make an appearance; it would be a brief one.

Please don't think that I've given up on the Tarantino film. In fact, I've contacted Arnie, who confirmed "I'll be back", so that's Centre Half covered. With your recommended list of heavies for the cast in place, and Dick Van Dyke filling in as sweeper, we're well there.

The Newcastle FC theme is a possibility, feasably using the title "Wor Jackie MilBrown", which would harken back to a more glorious era. I suggested this to a Geordie I know, but he preferred a more contemporary theme, using the title "Inglorious Basterds". But when I suggested putting that in Cannes, he was worried that there wouldn't be enough room left for his Newcastle Brown. There's no pleasing some people.

Other themes might be "Reserves Are Dogs", a reflective study of a relegation-threatened manager who is unimpressed by his bench, "Pimp Fiction", an allegory set during the era of Wayne Rooney's liaison with an elderly professional lady, and "Bill, Bill", the story of an agrieved Real Madrid accountant who can't understand why the cost of refilling the communal dressing room gel jar has gone through the roof.
