World Cup fever

Quite a strange - but nice - one this.
The ´óÏó´«Ã½ News team out in were talking to the England squad last week and the players said how much they would appreciate getting a feel of the World Cup fever back home.
But they can't get British TV in their hotel. After a brief conflab, my colleague Kevin Bishop and I suggested a possible idea: that we could arrange with the ´óÏó´«Ã½ engineers to provide them with News 24, and arrange a time for them to see a special World Cup Sportsday to see how England was reacting to the tournament so far.
The players were very keen - so we're up and running. We're also asking for viewers' messages for the team, with some help from Breakfast and Newsround. It's 18.30 UK time on Thursday - straight after their dinner.

'A nice one'?? Did it ever occur to you that someone might think this was an appalling waste and misuse of resources?
Perhaps the ´óÏó´«Ã½ could also rig up internet access so that certain players could get 'feedback' on their recent 'performances' from the 606 messageboards?

I think that it is a great idea to let the players know that they have the support of the whole country and to let them know what we all think about their performances. Hopefully it could inspire them to actually play well and bring the cup home.
I think that it will benefit the England team to receive feedback from their country during their time in the World Cup. They will be able to see what they are doing right and more importantly what they are doing wrong.They will then be able to build on their weak points ready for the next game. They will also be encouraged to see how much England fans are behind them and this will motivate them in future games.To receive messages of support from their fans would obviously be very encouraging for the team and I think they deserve to get them after all their hard work.
Surely the players don't need a TV to realise the atmosphere surrounding the World Cup 2006. With people all around the globe watching the football, this tournament can be considered to be one of the biggest in the world.
If the players were to have British TV in their hotel wouldn't they complain of nerves and suddenly feel the pressure.
We'd like to thank all the viewers for their messages and thoughts, many of which we used on screen. David Beckham said afterwards that he and all the team watched the programme and they found it great to see for themselves the atmosphere back in England. They also wanted to thank everyone for their messages.

It's interesting to see the ´óÏó´«Ã½ is comfortable with copyright infringement and breach of contract when it suits its (narrow, self-serving) goals. ´óÏó´«Ã½ World works for the rest of us when we are in Europe; News 24, as the ´óÏó´«Ã½ well knows, is protected for the UK market and may contain content that the ´óÏó´«Ã½ cannot legally broadcast or distribute elsewhere. But that's just fine if you can get some cheap publicity, I guess...
With Britain gone totally chav and some 30% of cars sporting a naff England flag, I'm so glad to be resident in Japan. Just hope those barbarian England fans don't do something to totally wreck my "English gentleman" image. Because when reality catches up with image all I'll have left is my ready wit and boyish good looks. A dismal prospect indeed, which will surely degrade prospects as I seek my fortune in the colonies.
But face it; Small wonder everyone from the prime minister up is going "ape" over football, it's about all that Britain has going for it. Not a fan, you can tell.
I think it's a good idea to show the England team footage from back home as they will be able to see their fans supporting them. This will give them the support they need to win the World Cup.
I think its an essential for the England squad to see how their fans are reacting back home in England as this is the biggest football tournament in the world. It will only be a postive for the players and give the squad more confidence and belief. Come on England!
What a good idea. For the England team to recieve messages of support would be very encouraging and a good technique to motivate the players in their next match.
Our players are in a foreign country with as many people booing them as there are cheering them! I think it's a great idea to let them see how we react to how they're playing but it's never going to give them the full story; at least it's a start.
I'm really proud of my team and nothing makes me feel better than supporting them through their games. If they could only see the amount of England flags flying that I see on my way to college everyday then I think they would feel as positive about their team as I do.
I don't expect them to win but with a bit of self-esteem from seeing their country backing them I think that we might stand a good chance!! Come on England!!
l am proud of england but my only worry is the refs in this world cup who like to many red cards and yellow cards in a match like today with england a red card for rooney is far to much we play like good tackles and do not fall like the rest and perHAPS WE SHOULD BE A BIT MORE FALLING DOWN and l have never seen a penalty having to be taken again and it was an improtant penalty perhaps they do not like the english judith czernucha
