Newswatch, the programme which features viewers' responses to ´óÏó´«Ã½ TV News, this week discussed the coverage of the return to the UK of Mirza Tahir Hussain after his release from prison in Pakistan. It also looked at the labelling of 4x4s as 'gas guzzlers', and how charities are treated in TV News.
Radio 4's Feedback this week discussed why news programmes report the deaths of UK troops before the names have been released, and the worry this can cause for families who fear they might have been affected. You can listen to it here.

Who watches Newswatch? The piece on gas guzzlers failed to obtain a committment from editors on changing the use of this misleading terminolgy.
RE: The Pope's visit to Turkey
The Pope's visit will be tense because if he says anything perceived as wrong there will be "paroxysms of fury" from the populace according to your article. They had the same reaction to a cartoon depicting their prophet (just depicting was enough). If they are so easily offended, why don't we see "paroxysms of fury" about their own Muslim fundamentalist radicals? They are the ones who attacked us on 9/11/01, subsequently leading to the current great tension between Christians and Muslims. The attack is also what excused the U.S. invasion of two middle-eastern countries, which will destabilize the region for decades.
Did they forget who started the current conflicts? Don't write back with reminders of U.S. and Western interference/expliotation over the region throughout history; attacking NYC was still wrong on any level. Too bad the fundamentalists couldn't have just writen a heart-wrenching movie about their oppression over the years, that is how to reach American/Western hearts and minds! If they had done something like that there would be less religious hatred now(Christians and Muslims both). There would have been so many over here who could have been pursuaded that Isreal is not so great, the oil companies are clearly evil, etc, whatever your current gripes are.
But not now. We don't demonstrate in the street, as it is very unseemly, but there is just as much hatred over here now towards your religion as you have there towards Christians and Secular people.
Please! Middle-Eastern Peoples! Have some "paroxysms of fury" towards your own killers! America would have less justification to be there now if you had cared about our human lives in the first place.
i hope ive reached the right place,i love my bbc,im 67,but im writting about the mention of quiz shows,well they are a rip off,i tried only once at 1am,the man on the show was sat down and begging for som-one to call in,i did at 75p a go and was told i was not lucky this time..and the ironey of this story is i atully had the right answer,,yours j sparrow
