The Marvellous, Magical, Mad Football League Tour - part II

Post categories:

Tom Fordyce | 09:02 UK time, Friday, 7 August 2009

A little while ago, my regular travelling compadre Ben Dirs and I appealed for info, assistance and tips for Stop Two on our MMMFLT - Colchester.

And now, with the new season upon us like an express train, we can reveal our findings.

Ipswich fans - try to be charitable. Fans of comic timing and smooth presentation - this may not be for you. Everyone else - get stuck in and enjoy, and let us know what you think.

And more importantly, which club we should go to next...

I am guessing their is more to this? So i would like to reiterate what comment 1 has already put so eloquently.... What?

    ????????????

Has anyone got any ideas what this is about?

Do we need to have read Part I first to understand it?

  • Comment number 5.

I assume there's meant to be a video on this...

  • Comment number 6.

Apologies all - that graphic in the middle of the story is meant to be video - technical probs at the mo. Should be fixed very shortly, I'm told...

Tom. i had to go on to Wikipedia to find who you actually are!! I know what your name,is but would it have nott been a good idea to give your job descritpion as well??

This blog might have made sense as well!!

  • Comment number 9.

    goto Yeovil Town next!

  • Comment number 10.

Go to Cardiff, see our new stadium since you missed out on the fantastic old one.

  • Comment number 11.

Professor Techno, the ´óÏó´«Ã½'s purpose is not to make sense. As the writer Rebecca West once said, "Journalism is the ability to meet the challenge of filling space." The MMMFL Tour is a perfect example of this. Unfortunately they use licence fee payers' money to do it.

With regards to where you should go next, Mr. Fordyce, I suggest you try hitch-hiking to the dwarf planet Eris. It is quite a few billion miles away, so best pack some sandwiches and a change of socks. Bon voyage!

  • Comment number 12.

Rivalry with Ipswich? What about us lot down the A12? Hope you enjoyed meeting their new "fans" outside the stadium ;o) - we certainly enjoyed our first visit to Cuckoo Farm last year...who put the ball in the Col U net, Francky Moussa did!

Suggest if you want to meet some decent mascots you come along to Southend, Sammy is a legend!

  • Comment number 13.

I like our interesting new eggy mascot if that is a real one lol.

Good video you guys, got a nice bit of our history in as well so well done :)

Just another thing, those 2 kids like Izzet because of his goals? I think he scored once last season...

  • Comment number 14.

Dubbin, take your thatcherite whinging elsewhere. HYS I imagine is your usual haunt.

  • Comment number 15.

Come to Yeovil for the west country experience!

  • Comment number 16.

Well Mr. Firefly, your alter ego, Julius Henry Marx once said, "I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book."

Hoist with your own petard I reckon.

I was never a "Thatcherite" (notice the capital "T" by the way), but I am most definitely a "Yorkshireman". We are born with a built-in bull-plop detector you see, and it serves us very well.

What has Hispanic Youth Symposium got to do with the price of coal?

  • Comment number 17.

I watched 10 mins of that and I realised you guys actually get paid for it.

  • Comment number 18.

I think you should go Hillsborough to see Sheffield Wednesday!

This could well be our play off year!

  • Comment number 19.

Oh deary me boys. Tom and Ben, you make me laugh out loud on a regular basis with your ball-by-ball text commentaries on the cricket. The current ashes series in particular has seen you at your quick-witted, punning best, however this pile of ill-conceived, stuttering, port-a-loo bilge is enough to make a 15 year old media studies student weep. I don't blame you really, you were only doing your best in an unfamiliar medium, but your producer should be tarred, feathered and horse-whipped out of town for such an offence to football, comedy and the ´óÏó´«Ã½ license payers.

  • Comment number 20.

Well that was extraordinarily embarrassing. It seemed like a vehicle for two halfwits to get their fifteen minutes of fame. Good lord, I wonder who on earth employs you chaps.

A nice thought would be speaking to players/ manager/ showing the town of the club/ doing something vaguely amusing. Not dress up as something that isn't even the club's mascot and rearrange counters on a white board. For your sake I hope the next club you visit hasn't had a look at this video- they may well have to lock the club gates before you arrive.

  • Comment number 21.

I'll put it down to it being the first one - but that was awful. Too much of Ben & Tom, not enough about the club in question.
I think the ten facts about Colchester United summed it up...there were only eight.
Please think it through next time [you clearly didn't here]. Must do better or leave it alone.

  • Comment number 22.

Thanks for the comments all. Agree we're on a learning-curve here - thoughts duly noted and taken on board...

  • Comment number 23.

Tom. Get to Nottingham on Tuesday and Wednesday, means you get to watch Nutts Conty vs Doncaster on Tuesday, and Forest vs Bradford on Wednesday...

  • Comment number 24.

Colchester? Just a small town in Southend... When it comes to local rivalries, only Norwich matter.

End of the day, which East Anglian side has won an FA Cup? A UEFA Cup? The top flight? Which side is currently in the higher division than their local rivals? Ipswich ARE the Pride of Anglia, simple as...

  • Comment number 25.

This must be the daftest blog on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sport. I assume Mihir Bose wrote it.

  • Comment number 26.

The most pointless and useless waste of bbc money and my time. Even as a col u fan I struggled to watch all 18 minutes. Surely as 'sports journalist' you could find a better way to cover each club. Pure rubbish.

  • Comment number 27.

If I wanted to watch nonentities horsing about being idiots I'd go to YouTube. At least it is free. The idea our money went towards this monumental waste fo time is depressing.
Too much ego, too little effort putting this piece together. It looks like an idea hatched in the pub that should have stayed in the pub.

  • Comment number 28.

Tom, I really like your blogs during Test matches. So why this nonsense? Is Mihir moonlighting?

  • Comment number 29.

The most interesting thing about this blog is the spat between the unwashed leftie and the Thatcherite Yorkshireman. To think that after 28 years some people are still hung up about Dame Margaret enough to be taking pops on a blog like this is incredible.

  • Comment number 30.

    Tom and Ben,

I hold you directly responsible for Norwich's capitulation against Colchester. Or rather, I hold you responsible for motivating Colchester. It would only be fair if your next trip was to visit the Canaries, the destroyers of Bayern Munich.

What could be better? Exotic yellow birds, a cook who has taught the world how to cheat at cooking, a Norman cathedral, the home of Alan Partridge, Mike Bassett and Tim Westwood. And frankly, the team need a pick-me-up. Go to Carrow Road.

  • Comment number 31.

Enjoy both of you within the confines of the written word... Not entirely sure it works in front of a camera though.

  • Comment number 32.

    Toe curling...sorry guys
