Seven of Wales' most eye-catching buildings have received top design accolades from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

93 buildings across the UK are winners in the 2010 RIBA Awards for architectural excellence, seven of which are in Wales - which is impressive considering that just two Welsh buildings gained recognition last year.

Buildings in Cardiff that clinched awards include Chapter Arts Centre by Ash Sakula; Cardiff Central Library by BDP; Skypad Teenage Cancer Trust Unit at the University Hospital of Wales (by Orms Architecture Design) and Sleeperz Hotel by Clash Associates.

Hafod Eryri, the building at the summit of Mount Snowdon designed by Ray Hole Architects, picked up an award, as did Margam Discovery Centre in Port Talbot, by Loyn and Co Architects and Design Research Unit.

The Creative Business Units at Aberystwyth Arts Centre by Heatherwick Studio also scooped a 2010 RIBA Award.

i thing snowdon summit has a privilege among other projects to win, but it does not mean that the other projects will not be appreciated in points of architectural design/concept, but i think the snowdon summit is a good example of how architecture shall be the extension of a nature, and besides up to 5meter of rain falls on the summit every year. that's a hard task.

I like the words "Architecture is the extension of a nature". if you see a piece of work of architecture it makes you feel some kind of greatness. its my very own experience. believe me.
