Catherine Zeta Jones scoops CBE and Tony Award
It was a successful weekend for Catherine Zeta Jones as she was named in the Queen's Birthday Honours list. She is to be made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for her services to the film industry and to charity.
And last night the Welsh star scooped the 2010 Tony Award for best performance by a leading actress in a musical for her role in A Little Night Music.
Zeta Jones made her début Broadway appearance in the role of Desiree Armfeldt in the Stephen Sondheim musical last year, and she beat fellow actors Kate Baldwin, Montego Glover, Christiane Noll and Sherie Rene Scott to the prestigious award at the ceremony in New York last night.
Zeta Jones heads a list of Welsh names to receive accolades in the Queen's Birthday Honours list, which also includes musicians John Cale (OBE) and Karl Jenkins (CBE), former Wales football captain and Groggs creater , both of whom receive MBEs.
