Young Fathers, Soft Toy Emergency, Y Promatics at Bangor University
´óÏó´«Ã½ Introducing at Bangor University Student's Union.
Bangor is one of the smallest citites in the UK, and at the last census has around 10,000 students - this is the Wikipedia description of the place.
Bangor is also my birth city, though my parents moved when I was six months old, but I returned to Bangor to work for Radio Cymru and get invaluable training as a rookie researcher for the ´óÏó´«Ã½.
At the hotel we catch up with fierce french disco inspired beat maker , from Llangefni, whose recording a short interview for the radio show, and its always a pleasure to meet the musicians behind the MySpace.
Then the R1 team head down to the gig run by a new local collective of DJs called - what an amazing cool name for a night, and promoted with old fashioned luggage labels. The Lost Property female DJs are girls after my own heart with a love for the recent few years crossover between dance and indie, and play a whole host of wicked remixes of our favourite bands.
Openers , from Dyffryn Nanlle, have impressed me recently at gigs like Swn and at the Eisteddfod, as they put on a tight show, and have some really great electro/indie inspired songs on their debut album. The intros themselves are amazing hooks.
Next up are Liverpool five piece pop punk electro band . They instantly get the 350 plus crowd at Bangor Uni jumping. Their current single Critical is a banger of a track live and I loved seeing them for the first time. Frontwoman Jen is a livewire and despite being a relatively new band, they are totally at home with a big crowd like tonight.
Finally, headlining the show are one of the best things about new British music at the moment. All the flare ofÌý Jurassic 5, all the musicality of De La Soul, and it's a show and a half with coordinated dance moves, fun lyrics, and just oodles of energy. Ally, Graham, Kayus who are the return to North Wales, having played Wakestock earlier in the summer, and are starting to nurture a real relationship with this crowd.
And Jen Long from ´óÏó´«Ã½ Introducing team recorded these vlogs with all the bands of the night. Enjoy the great footage of the gigs.
