Quite literally today, as I got a tip-off that some our camera team were off filming a dipper's nest, which they'd been watching near the dam at Lake Vyrnwy.

The weather was definitely against us as we drove into dark clouds and torrential rain on our way down to Gigrin Farm, so not ideal kite flying weather! Around an hour and half later we arrived at the farm and the skies were beginning to clear.

A cold dark start to the day today; 3.30am to be precise... I'd agreed to cover a dawn chorus with Simon King and Chris Watson, and we began to assemble outside the hotel reception in the half light.

This year we're honoured to have the resident Springwatch wild man - Simon King visiting our shores.
Simon - 'the king of field craft' and his hi-tech, 'mission impossible' field team have the unique wildlife of mid and
north Wales in their sights this year.
The locations and habitats vary greatly and I'll be tracking their every move - reporting back with exclusive updates and video clips along the way.

My illustrious colleague - 'The Mole' will be filling in the gaps back at basecamp in Norfolk this year so check out the Springwatch blog for his exclusives and behind the scenes stories.
The programme begins on Bank Holiday Monday - 25 May, ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two, 8pm but I'll be blogging solidly before then, so try and keep up!

Great news for Welsh farmer Alan Morgan as he's just been named Wales' winner of the Nature of Farming Award - a competition run by the and magazine. The 58-hectare farm in Monmouth is a haven for the rare silver-washed fritillary and clouded yellow butterflies.
