Whilst much is being said about as we consider its legacy on this the anniversary, Jeannette has been in touch to share her experiences as each year she takes children from Belarus into her home in Connah's Quay to give them a holiday and some respite.

She recalls: "In 1994 my family hosted our first two children from Belarus. Their names were Erena and Kseniya, The first night they stayed we heard the water running for a long time and, being a typical 'Mother Hen', I went to investigate. I walked in to find them washing their clothes ready for the next morning. All they had were the clothes they arrived in."

"To date we have had 31 children stay with us as part of our family and they have all been special. There are stories to tell about them all. One little girl was so grateful for all the gifts we had given to her insisted we kept her only toy which was a homemade 'doll'."
