A Mosey round the media centre
- 20 Jun 06, 03:26 PM
IBC, MUNICH – The ´óÏó´«Ã½â€™s director of sport Roger Mosey popped into the International Broadcast Centre on Sunday night to see Match of the Day’s Munich operation in full flow. I took the opportunity to get his for our office World Cup sweep.
Winners: Just to be controversial I’ll say Germany. It’s a cliché to say never underestimate the Germans, but it is true. Like most people I think, I feel very uneasy about a Germany/England second round tie (if that’s the way it works out). I just fear the Germans would sneak it again. And then if they do that, they’re in the quarter-finals, they’ve got home support…
Runners-up: Argentina. They are the team that have impressed me the most – the game with Serbia & Montenegro was incredible. Before the tournament I probably would have said Brazil. But I’ve seen one Brazil game in real life (against Australia on Sunday) and one on the telly and I think may be the burden of expectation on the Brazilians has affected them. Everyone expects them to always be so fantastic but so far they’ve looked very beatable.…
Golden boot: I’ll think positively here and go for Steven Gerrard – hopefully he can shoot England to the final.…
Total number of goals in the tournament: I’ve done a bit of research into this for another sweep and looked at the total number of goals scored in 1998 (161) and 2002 (171). There have been a few goals so far, so I’m going for 173.
I'm sure you've all done your own office sweeps - what answers would you give to the above categories?

This article is no-where near as popular as the last mate!
Come on Germany - £150 my way in the sweep if they do win. Cannot see it though. Argentina look amazing (they play a bit like Bolton - no no they don't I could only dream of that!), so they've got to win on current form.
Spain look like they may break the hoodoo to this time, unbeaten under Aragones since Euro 04, so look a good bet to do better than there usual quater final finish. So lets say second.
Top scorer i'd like to say Borgetti so someone pays a vast cornucopia for him but it wont happen, and my national pride would love to say one of our fully fit if not match fit stroikers, but I'd have to be more realistic and say one of three (hedging slightly) Klose, Torres or Crespo.

Team to win: Holland, ive backed them since the end of the qualifiers and i see no reason to stop backing them now
Runner up: England, ive done the calculations and noticed that if all goes to plan, we could have an England v Holland final, i think the dutch would shade it.
Golden Boot: Fernando Torres, he's been simply devastating so far, everyone is singing the praises of Argentine playmaker; Juan Roman Riquelme, and rightly so. But this 22 year old from Madrid has been the star of the show for me so far.
No of goals: 192, a lot of high scoring groups so far, especially Group H which has had 4 goals in each game so far. The tournement has been a huge success on this front so im guessing 2002's huge figure of 172 will be eclipsed by a fair margin
