Downcast in Dortmund

DORTMUND - Yesterday they were going to be world champions, today the Swedish fans are searching for answers as to why their team failed to beat Trinidad and Tobago.
The guys next door to us on the campsite, who were extremely bullish about their chances on Friday evening, just greeted me with a croaky "Oh, go away!" as I approached their caravan this morning.
"We've got a dumbass coach," said my new friend, Frederick. "Where was Kallstrom when Svensson was rubbish? He doesn't know when to use substitutes."
I managed to cheer them up with a set of Fletch and Ricco T-shirts, fast becoming the must-have fashion accessory of the World Cup, and they got a little bit more confident.
"It will be a good game against England now," added Freddy, "no-one wants to finish second and have to play the Germans."
Quite apart from the result, for one of them - Kristof, a chap with very long hair and a bushy moustache to complement his bow tie - it was a bad day all round.
"Ten minutes before the kick-off, I collapsed," he told me.
"I get an allergic reaction to bees and wasps. I didn't see any of them around but it was quite scary seeing the stadium disappear through the window of the ambulance with an oxygen mask on and a drip in my arm."
He told me he was feeling fine now and they are off home, but might come back for their game against Paraguay in Berlin.
"We're going to have to play much better," they all agreed.

Credit must also be given to Trinidad and Tobago's replacement goal keeper Shaka Hislop who did a splendid job. Tough luck Sweden.

Hi,
The conclusive word on the white stuff floating around is that it was an amalgam of Lars Lagerback's nose hairs, dislodged due to his hyperventilating!!!!

I don't think Sweden should be that downcast, sure they expected to beat T & T, but Trindad n Tobago played really well, and there experienced players such as Dwight Yorke and 'Boom' SHAKA 'Laka' Hislop had tremoudous games.
Sweden did play well and did carve up the chances, if they'd have got 1, i think they'd have got 4-5 because the Trinidad players would have been deflated and right up against the wall, but i think with the quality of players Sweden have they can still get out of the group...although it will go right down to their last game vs England - when fingers crossed Rooney will come back.
I'd fancy Sweden to beat Paraguay and with England 'probably' beating T & T, sweden shouldn't be too worried although of course a good start would have been better.

Interesting that your new friend Frederick advises that substitutes seem to be an issue!! Is this a Swedish thing - substitutes at the wrong time and the wrong person??? Sound familiar ????
