The name game
- 6 Jun 06, 12:34 PM
LONDON - We picked our mobile home up yesterday and spent a considerable amount of time learning about the delights of the Fiat Riviera 181.
A true delight - check it out for yourselves in our first video entry.
It holds 125 litres of water, has a fridge with freezer - which is real luxury since I don't even have one of those at home - and a cassette.
Now before you become overcome with nostalgia let me point something out.
The cassette in question will not play my old tapes of Breakin 2 Electric Booglaoo, Spandau Ballet or other pre-teen misadventures, but holds a certain type of waste produce.
Lets just say I listened very carefully when the rental people explained how to remove the cassette and safely desposit said waste while avoiding spillage.
By the time Ricco and I had finished listening to instructions about hot water, electrics, gas, hidden storage space, hook-up points and other mechanical tips and pointers I was positively dizzy.
Nonetheless, the smooth curves of the Riviera are a joy to behold and the vehicle is our home for the next five weeks.
With this in mind we want a name for the mobile home.
I should point out that when my parents bought a dog they called it Fletch. Having to yell my own nickname when trying to retrieve my parent's dog has left me scarred and the subject of constant mockery from my girlfriend.
Clearly, I'm looking to avoid anything similarly ridiculous but want something that captures the flavour of our trip.
Any ideas?
By the way, the guys at begin their World Cup podcasts on Wednesday.
They are looking for people to contribute so get involved.

What about Sarah?
It's got to be a girl's name with it's smoove curves.
Also, Sarah the Riviera (it works on so many levels) ha ha. OK maybe not!

What all my University mates do, is name their car by the number plate. Use the letters to make a name, OR use the make of the van instead! I dunno, random stab in the dark, its a Fiat soooo how about Fred the Fiat? or Frank? You get the idea.

i think it should be called trevor because i like that name and i think its good

Why not call it Ruud Van History Boys? Or as it's a Riviera and you're taking it to Germany maybe "Rhein '66" ? As in 'get your kicks in Rhein 66'? Covers a multitude of good reasons...I think.

What about Numan?
As in Gary.
He had lots suitably German/Kraftwerk-esque overtones going on. And it will keep the pre-teen/new romantic/electro vibe going on in the absence of your Spandau tapes.
Good luck with life in the Autobahn slow lane…

How about:
"How the **** do we get the air conditioner to work?" followed up by removal of three layers of clothes and then repeated kicking of the beast's tyres?
Record it and there you have it, a true internet video-blogging classic moment. On a par with Basil Fawlty with his tree-thwacking antics.

I think you should call it Hursts Bratwurst. Fit in with the sausage munchers.

I've got a couple of names for your Mobile Home...dunno what u reckon but i think theres a good'ern in here somwhere...
Something simple like "Bobby's Victory" keeping in mind the Only England captain 2 win the World Cup and what we all want VICTORY at this years final.
"Final Or Bust' could also work given the english fans view that if we dont get 2 the final we're not good enough.
You could call it 'Dynamo' not because of Dynamo Kiev - the great Ukraninan club - but in aid of Dynamo! Magic, etc.
If it was up 2 me id name it VICTORIA '06 - for Queen Victora and Victory and '06 well for 2006.
Anyway happy driving...look 4ward 2 more of ur blogs

It doesn´t really matter what you call it - it won´t answer you.
However I do like "Bob" and possibly "Willy" - just for the sheer number of associated references.eg. ´World Cup Willy´, ´Willy play a part in the tournament´(Rooney), ´Willy be the new star´(Walcott) and of course, the oblique reference to an item which is the subject of schoolboy humour.
Lucky you, anyway. I will be stuck in Macedonia when we reach the Final.
Viel Spaß!
Richard.

How about ... 'The Bandwagon' or 'The England Bandwagon'
As WHEN England lift the World Cup on July 9th, the entire country will want to jump on it. ;-)
In that case, I hope this van of yours is insured!
'Motortarsel' and 'Svan' are pretty damn good though.
