Friday's Morning Meeting

Ros Atkins Ros Atkins | 12:15 UK time, Friday, 27 October 2006

Morning all. Sorry we're a little late. We'll blame it on Mark's dentist. We're just beginning today's Morning Meeting. Click here to find out how the meeting works and how to contribute, or read on to see what we're talking about today.

So it's farewell to Anu. She'll be at as I write this I think. Here's to a safe trip and three great months in India, and some of us will see her out there in February.

So today we've Richard, Mark, Pete, Paul, Rozita and David. We've a few stories in mind, but we're happy to be guided by you so please email your story suggestions now...

1115: Rich is interested in the South Park Steve Irwin story. Are you talking about it? I think it's a great subject but have Australians taken offence? We'll try and find out. It's a non starter if only Rich nis getting upset - important though his feelings are.

1117: It's the anniversary of the riots in Paris. Mr de Villepin has visited the area where they took place. David wants to ask if anything has changed in the past year?

1119: David's just sent me about Johannesburg International renaming itself. I'm interested as I always think South African have been very slow to give their roads and airports names that better represent the majority. Again I just don't know if it's got you talking in South africa. Again we'll try and find out.

1121: Mark says we should think about the Madonna Malawi story. What did they make of her

1123: Should we go back to the debate about the Muslim cleric who described women without headscarves as 'uncovered meat'? He's been suspended by his Muslim association but the Oz PM John Howard says this isn't enough. Do you agree? Do you still want to talk about it? Richard's suggesting a wider discussion about the role of religious leaders in society.

1130: We're still debating this story. I'd like to ask the broader issue of how women dress and whether it attracts sexual assault. Did this cleric say the right thing but choose the wrong words as Rick from Brisbane suggested on last night's programe? We think there's an appetite for this and it's Rick setting the agenda. Should women dress more modestly? What do you think?

1135: Paul wants to ask 'Should countries ever return treasures plundered from other countries?' He's been reading .

1140: There's also the . David wonders who's going to argue that the behaviour of these soldiers wasn't unacceptable.

1142: This email is from Rosie in Palm Springs on the in the States.

I watch ´óÏó´«Ã½ news every night to get a different perspective I was very offended by your news from Mexico The fence has nothing to do with everyday workers which I agree should come here legally but the drug trafficking from Mexico to the Us is unbeleivable also 80% of our criminals at the border are illegals, our medical facilities have closed at the border as they have been overused by uninsured illegals they want their children educated at the expense of the taxpayers but pay none themselves , also believe we owe them , Granted they work some of them in agriculture to wealthy farmowners who wont pay others normal wages , you have to live in a border town to get the other side of the coin we owe them nothing and most other nationalities come here through the normal channels , they should put as much effort into improving their own country which is one of the richest in South America.

1250: So we'll consider all of these stories and let you know in a minute what's going to make the programme. Thanks for your contributions.
