Thursday's Morning Meeting

Ros Atkins Ros Atkins | 11:50 UK time, Thursday, 26 October 2006

Hi there. I hope you're doing well today. Here's details of today's Morning Meeting. Click here to find out how the meeting works and how to contribute, or read on to see what we're talking about today.

Here we have today's suggestions - a number of which Rabiya outlined earlier. Please feel free to add yours to the mix. In case you're wondering we've got Karnie, Rich, David, Paul, Mark and Rabs....

1100: Mark is very keen on looking at this set-up by members of the American military who want the US troops out of Iraq. We're going to try and speak to some American servicemen in Iraq. Having heard so many of you criticising their presence there on Monday's programme, it'll be fascinating to hear their side of things.

1105: Kefas in Kaduna State Nigeria has texted to say 'Is the current spate of impeachments in Nigeria essential to the protection of democracy? Please, ´óÏó´«Ã½, tell the politicians to respect the rules of the game.' Kefas, we can't tell politicians what to do (I'm afraid that's not what the ´óÏó´«Ã½ does) but we certainly interested in the issue of impeachment. In fact it may well fit into a broader consideration of African governance prompted by a for the continent's most effective head of state.

There's certainly an appetite for talking about governance, but are people talking about this prize? Or maybe that doesn't matter if the broader issue is important to many of you? But David wonders whether this prize will make any difference. Maybe we should talk about that rather than governance itself.

1107: Justin in Arizona has emailed.... 'what about this pretty big story in Australia about a Muslim cleric saying that ' We've talked about the bail several times (see Tuesday's show ). Do we end up having a similar debate to other shows? Do we mind if pots of you ware talking about it? I think we should do it. It's proving to be a multi-faceted debate and there's still more to say.

1110: Also from Justin. 'It looks like actor Michael J Fox is behind stem cell research, and has caused one of the Mirrouri senate races to heat up between Jim Talent, and his democratic opponents.

1112: This has come through on AP in the last few minutes...

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - A Danish court on Thursday
dismissed a lawsuit filed by seven Muslim organizations
against the newspaper that first published a dozen cartoons
of the Prophet Muhammad that triggered massive protests in
the Islamic world earlier this year.

We're going to see how people have reacted in Denmark. There is a feeling it would have been a bigger talking point if the verdict had gone the other way.

1115: Just before I went home two days ago I spotted a news flash that Niger was planning to ask 150,000 Arabs to leave. I was excited to told today that Priya has picked up the story and all being well we're going to speak to people there about this. The ... If this comes off, we'll definitely do it tonight.

1116: This email from Ajay...

I'm a student who would be joining your team in December on World Have Your Say. Have been listening to the program and particularly the veil row sparked off by jack straw and fuelled by politicians has me wondering? What are British Values? What is british way of life? And even if one understands them, how can one totally integrate without practicing their own? I would love it if the program can actually get politicians to sum up what British values are? The reaction is of interest but is today the day? There's a lot of stories and while it's a great talking point it's unlikely to make it tonight. But as you're coming to work here Ajay you'll have plenty of chances to explain why we're wrong. Thanks for the message.

1118: David's turn and he wants us to look at which tackle domestic violence. We know from experts on South Asia here at the ´óÏó´«Ã½ that this is getting a lot of you talking. The problem today is that we have too many talking points.

1120: Rabs still keen on the in hundreds of Greek schools. I am too.

So now we have to work out which of these stories will make the show. Thanks for all your contributions. I'll post again in a little while.
