Get Loose, Get Loose indeed.
There's been a huge buzz around this record for a while now. Kasabian sure sound like they're on one. Whatever one is. It's a crazy record that doesn't seem to have any centrepiece, but throws hooks at you with ease. It's come on a long way since I heard the demo in Tom's living room last year...I can now see even a little bit of what goes through Serge's mind as he puts this music together. He's a mad genius. What do you think?
Nice. A cheeky leak courtesy of TEAM SKINNER. We really have very little information regarding this, except that it's brand new, sounds like revived Streets and is transferable by email. Those three things may it today's Hottest Record. Do you agree? Leave a comment. Oh, brand new Kasabian tomorrow and Djing at Snowbombing on Friday. Nice.
This week, it was all about Dizzee Rascal and Armand Van Helden's 'Bonkers'...seriously, we've never seen a track causing such a riot in this building - no brainer for 'Single of the Week'
Looking forward to Kasabian's Hottest Record this Tuesday - Zane should be catching up with Serge on the phone. We've also got a massive Reading and Leeds announcement on Monday too...we are talking BIG names being revealed.
Wish us luck...we've put in a request to speak to Snoop Dog this Monday of the back his massive tune '...Millionaire' What do you reckon?!!!
Have a great weekend....Kat
Bonkers. It's just that, an incredible collab between Armand Van Helden and Dizzee Rascal. While the recession looms heavy, something tells me with tunes like this, the clubs will be packed. Leave a comment and have a great weekend.
Fighting talk from one of the UK's most established bands, peeled apples is album opener from an excitably heavy record that's features lyrics entirely penned by Richy and is entirely produced by Albini.
They didn't need to come out this rough especially after the success of the last album but the fact that they have makes them unmistakable Manic Street Preachers.

Second time play for us this week. Such is the genuine thrill from playing Passion Pit. Nothing on the EP could have prepared us for the brilliance of their forthcoming album 'Manners'. So tonight's Hottest Record, 'The Reeling', should be the start of something amazing for listeners around the world as, once again, we discover a special new band. Enjoy. And leave a comment...
Holy cow, if this doesn't rip the face off your speakers...Gallows come back with an intelligent, brutal, fire in their belly. 'The Vulture (Act II)' will feature on the album, 'Grey Britain' and is also part of a short film that the band are putting there. This new Gallows album is more than fans could hope for. Relentless excitement throughout. Don't sleep on Gallows this year. As ever, leave a comment.
Another packed week! The reaction to Placebo's Hottest Record was ridiculous...great to see all the responses on the blog - thank you! We'll post up Zane's interview with Brian on Monday so you can re-hear what he's been up to on Placebo's brand new album.
Very excited about next week's Hottest Record...Gallows, Passion Pit and Dizzee Rascal! They'll all get their first radio plays on our show. Plus Bat for Lashes will be in session, we're doing a five camera shoot of that so the film will look glorious...will keep you posted when that goes online.
Have a great weekend!
This is an awesome meeting of styles and minds. Snoop sounds urgent and the beat is as heavy as ever.
Slumdogg fever continues...
Disco is The New Disco!
And Empire of The Sun are 'Disco New Disco!' Nah that was rubbish...
Listen to the record and leave a comment... it's bound to be better than mine.
It's been a long time since we got a reaction like this for our H.R. Placebo fans have always been passionate and loyal and I reckon we had a planet full of them tuned into Radio 1 tonight for the first play of their new single 'Battle for the Sun'. Placebo have faced many hurdles in their career and re-emerged in 2009 standing talling than ever. This is big, bold, atmospheric music. Brian simply called it 'cinemascope and widescreen technicolour'. And judging from the interview, Brian and the band are exited about the future. We are always excited about the future of music, which is why tomorrow H.R is Empire of the Sun. Leave a comment. z
Well, there's no stopping Jack White, just as we have fully got our heads around The Raconteurs, he's formed another band. Photoshoots, album...all done and a new single, 'Hang You From The Heavens' was tonight's H.R. Proper head down, grungy blues riff with a strong vocal from Alison out of The Kills. That said - White Stripes? Heard some new Green Day songs today. If you are a fan, Christmas comes in May (although that's not confirmed). Seriously though, it's massive!
Anyways, check out The Dead Weather and as always leave a comment. See you tomorrow for Placebo. z
Moving out of the big leagues tonight for the HOT although this band has been around for a few albums, this brilliant record may be a first taste for some of you. I always relish those circumstances because a whole world of music that already exists, opens up. So if you like the sound of 'I've Got Friends', then you got some catching up to do with Manchester Orchestra. Leave a comment, and enjoy the weekend, back on Monday with Marilyn Mansun. Heaven help us all.
He's been a busy boy the G man, after a period of relative quite, we see him on tour with Pete Doherty, lining up the big Blur reunion, and releasing a brand new album called spinning top in may...henceforth, tonight's HR is the new single Sorrows Army. I called it a hoe down. He called it blues. Agree to disagree. Either way it's more quality for one of the UK's most incredible guitars players.

After five minutes of the most inspiring hold music we've ever experienced, we finally grabbed Zack from the Rut for a couple of minutes just to shout about tonight's hottest record. This is one I haven't heard before, something propulsive and tribal that promises to unleash the rock, but remains unexpectedly restrained from these two pirates. We really dig MC Rut, what do you think? Leave a comment. Tomorrow (weds), something HOT, from the G-Man.
So good we had to play it twice. Maximo Park back with every component that makes them Britain's finest pop rock bands. 'Wraithlike' promises so much for the third album and I can't wait to see them live again. Hand on heart one,of my favourite bands. MC Rut hottest record tomorrow and live night with The Doves...as ever leave your comments about our hottest records...
What a week...
We're just recovering from Grooverider's battering - he was brilliant on last night 'versus'...we've managed to nick the bass heavy Noisia track from his record box, so expect another spin next week! Glad we had a brilliant few days of hottest records...we didn't expect to get Yeah Yeah Yeahs so quickly but after the leak of the album, we just had to react and get it on air... Album of the week from Monday. Bat for Lashes 'Daniel' will be our Single of the Week with the hottest record from none other than Maximo Park...Zane will, of course, be chatting to Mr. Paul Smith. Don't forget to let us know what you think about all our hottest records so far...
We'll leave you a bit of Grooverider from last night's versus. Rob Da Bank will be battling Zane next Thursday!
Hey. Just finished an epic Vs with Grooverider. Heavy tune after heavy tune. If you missed it, don't miss out. Listen again. Before that, we dropped
a new Yeah Yeah Yeah's song in the Hottest Record dept. From the new album, 'Its Blitz'. Its ravey and fun. Check it out and leave your comments.
Back in the game today. Thanks Huw.
Filmed the first couple of Gonzo's today up at MTV2 Studio G. Missed the old goat. Now at Radio 1. Finished my combo's for Thursday's much anticipated Verses with Grooverider. Nerves aplenty but I've got some killer cuts ready (even a VIP).
Quick phone chat with JP from Marmaduke Duke. New single, 'Rubber Lover' is tonights Hottest. JP and Simon from Biffy Clyro having fun with this odd 80's throw back that samples Billy Joel and makes you feel kind of sick.
Back out on the road this weekend playing Exeter Lemon Grove on Friday and Falmouth on Saturday. As my friend Greenpeace says, 'nothing but heavy hitters'.
Hit me up with you comments below!
Huw says...
First saw Golden Silver at the Pilton Working Mens Club in Pilton for the Glastonbury emerging artist competition. Fell in love with them. Got them into Maida Vale. Hammered their tunes on the radio. Saw them live and stood there gobsmacked at their energy, hair, moustaches, BIG tunes and sense of fun. Please when they filled the stage at Glasto. Loved them at One Big Weekend. Wore their heart shaped badge with pride. Delighted that this was the HOTTEST RECORD in the WORLD Today on the show. Bounce to it, hit em up on the Myspace go to see them supporting Florence and the Machine on tour. Fall in love. Tell me what you think!
Huw Stephens says... "an unquestionable show of musical creativity with long time collaborator John Parish - this new track is why we love the ground PJ Harvey walks on"
