	Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson

This weekend there was a Manchester derby 同城的两队比赛 between Manchester United and Manchester City.

Manchester United won 3-1 to extend 增加 their Premiership lead by 9 points.

There was drama in the last minute of the game when Manchester City player, Bernardo Corradi, was sent off （红牌）罚出场 by the referee after diving 假摔.

Man City boss Stuart Pearce did not protect his player. He thought Corradi deserved the sending-off.

This is what he said:

"Went down" 摔倒 means fell down, he used this word instead of "dive" 假摔. "Cock and bull" 编造；胡说 means nonsense. We often say "cock and bull story" when we mean someone has told us something that is not true, usually because they want to make an excuse.

Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson, did not think it was a completely easy win over Man City and thought they should have won more easily.

He thought that there was some danger from Manchester City in the second half of the match. He says they should have "put the game to bed".

The idiom "put something to bed" 了结；到此为止 means to finish or end something and they didn’t take their chances 机会 means they did not take opportunities when it was possible.
