The 2003 Royal Show, which takes place on a Sunday for the first time ever this year, will see changes to cattle judging as organisers try and increase exposure for each category.

In previous years, the judging for the cattle classes were spread across the Monday and Tuesday of the show. This year, the categories have been spread through the week.

The new format will see the show's opening day, Sunday 29 June, and the Monday as beef days, Tuesday as the dairy day and Wednesday as the Champions Day.

Best of breeds going forward to the Champions Day will compete for Supreme Pig, Supreme Sheep and the acclaimed Burke Trophy will be awarded to the best pair of beef and dairy animals.

Classes for sheep, angora goats, pigs and poultry should be unaffected by the changes as their shows will also be spread across the four days of the show.

The director of exhibitions for show organisers RASE (Royal Agricultural Society of England) said: "International business sees the Royal Show as the showcase of the best in British agriculture.

"Last year over 拢2 million of business was conducted through the government's Global Partnerships Initiative alone."

He continued: "We hope that by increasing definition between the species, the new-look classes will globally increase exposure to entrants and the UK beef and dairy industries."
Farmers can save up to 40% off tickets when bought in advance.

Public tickets are now available at the advance price of 拢10 for adults and 拢6.50 for senior citizens and children. Family tickets, available for the first time, cost 拢31 in advance.
