January can be the hardest month of the year, with bad weather and empty pockets bringing the blues. But you needn't be bored and fed up this year.

Classical concerts are no longer just for the wealthy. If you like live music in a friendly setting, then Warwick Arts Centre's free lunchtime concerts will be right up your street.
Every Thursday the concerts start at 1.10pm in the Ensemble Room.
The first of these for 2003 were on 9 and 16 January, but there is one date left, on 23 January.
Performers include Matthew Jones and Michael Hampton (Viola and Piano), Emma Ramsdale (Harp) and the University of Warwick Music Scholars.

Coventry has a number of parks, which are ideal for walking off the Christmas excesses and escaping stress.
Memorial park, on Kenilworth Road, has free parking and Park and Ride South busses link it with the city centre.
Coombe Country Park has over 400 acres of countryside, just outside Coventry on the B4027.
There is a small charge for parking, but the visitor centre, walks, bird watching and children's play area are all free.

I bet you've walked past it a hundred times without making time to take a proper look around Coventry Cathedral.
The new cathedral houses an impressive range of artworks and the architecture and design are striking.
The old cathedral ruins are a beautiful place to explore and reflect. Entrance is free to both cathedral sites.

The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum in the city centre is free all year round and has a constantly changing range of exhibitions.
In January, you can explore 1000 years of Coventry's history, get involved in animal rights debates, see the Coventry City show and more.
Don't miss the gem on show at the moment - the famous painting of Lady Godiva by pre-Raphaelite artist John Collier.

The Mead Gallery, in the Warwick Arts Centre, is also free and is usually open late into the evening.
It has two new exhibitions on at the moment, called 'Elements' and 'Ream' which opened on 17 January.
Ream is now on until 8 February and Elements is open until 14 March.

All the libraries in Coventry now offer free access to the internet.
You can surf the web without even being a library member, all in the happy knowledge that it's not costing you a single penny.
Often time is restricted to one hour, but on quiet days this can be extended.

People of all ages are welcome to go wild with a series of free events from the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust at a number of venues not far from Coventry.
On 12 January, visitors could learn about hedgelaying skills at Alvecote Meadows, Near Tamworth.
On 19 January, there was also an opportunity to learn woodland skills in Wappenbury Wood, near Princethorpe.

At the start February, it's the Chinese New Year and on 2 February, there will be free entertainment galore as Coventry celebrates with demonstrations, music, street entertainment and more, all in the main precinct area.
