Once again, people are looking to destroy beautiful parts of the country with the argument that it will increase employment opportunities.
I see that they are not proposing the build an airport between Warwick & Stratford I wonder why? The reason is they wouldn't dare!
Presently Coventry is reinventing itself as a metropolitan, modern city. The last thing we need is an environmental disaster lowering our house prices, polluting our air & suffocating our children. Don't let them get away with dumping more stigma on Coventry.
Lastly, Phil Shepard from Rugby; never under estimate the power of the common man to protest. We did it in 95 against live exports from Baginton, we'll do it again in 2003!

Gavin, what sort of flowers would you like on your grave?
I'll bet you 拢10 you DON'T lie down in front of a bulldozer! I'll also wager your non-political stance over past years perhaps points to your NIMBYism ... am I right or am I right?
If you are/were politically aware, then there are far more important issues to get rattled about ... the 100's of children that die on the roads each year that could be saved, these that the media ignore, because it's not as sensational as one couple of children that were kidnapped and murdered, as usual by someone known to them.

If opposition to the proposed new midland airport is so strong, why did only 5 members of the public turn up to Rugby BC Cabinet meeting?
And not all of them were against the proposal!

I am an ordinary middle class member of the public, I have never in my life felt the need to protest or worry about the actions of our government. I think the times are changing and the people of this country are beginning to wake up to the horror and reality of what our politicians are subjecting the people of Britain to.
I am ashamed to say that it has taken the proposal of building an airport the size of Rugby itself in one of the most beautiful parts of Warwickshire to wake me up to the insensitivity of our politicians and make me realise how out of touch they have become to the voice of the people of Britain.
I feel so strongly on this issue that I know that if their proposals ever come to pass that I will join the many thousands of people such as myself that will lay in front of those bulldozers on the day they start to rip the heart out of our countryside. It is time for the people of this country to stand against the indifference emanating from central government and finally say NO, this is the last straw.
I am already starting to see some of that British camaraderie and fighting spirit being revived in the face of a common enemy, I am glad that it has not disappeared and I am glad because I know that this will not be a fight that this government will survive.
It is indeed sad that a phrase graffitied on a wall close to the proposed site seemed to sum it all up:
" I love my country, but I fear my government."

Faye, you say that the 大象传媒i website is neutral on this issue, but yet your heading to the debate uses immotive words such as 'obliteration' instead of perhaps more positive words, such as 'redevelopment'.
Both words are/maybe correct but if you were neutral then your choice of words might be better tempered.

Dear Mrs C Hopkins, presumably your 2 flights a year are 'there' and 'back'.
All those 1,000's of people having to suffer just so you can have a holiday ... well if it is from Birmingham you flew then 80,000 people had to suffer, if it was London then many many more.
The good news about the proposed new midlands airport is that only 11,000 people would suffer, there, that'll make you feel better about flying in the future!

Not only am I opposed to a new airport site, I am also strongly opposed to any expansion of current airport sites within the UK.
The Govt. document 'The Future Development of Air Transport in the UK: Midlands' seems to indicate that any expansion will only suffice until 2030, what then? More airports? Further expansion? Where will it all end
Will the Govt. only be happy when the entire country is covered in either tarmac of concrete?
I do use our current airports and probably fly on average twice a year. I would, however, be willing to reduce the amount of times I fly a year (and pay more for flights!) if it meant saving valuable Greenbelt and putting a ceiling on fuel emissions.
Your website says that the 大象传媒 has no official stance - perhaps you could help start a national debate???

Thanks for getting in touch. I have to tell you there is no official stance from the 大象传媒. The site is a place to reflect local views rather than 大象传媒 views.
The pages we currently have on the site both reflect and encourage local opinion. We are providing information from the official documents and providing a list of meeting dates and a space online for people to vent their views.
Obviously people are free to voice any opinion for or against the airport at those meetings and on the website.
We have cited details from local action plans against the proposals and would happily cite similar details from a group campaigning for the airport. If such a group is formed we would endeavour to give them equal space on the site.
I hope that reassures you.

Reading the airport index, does one assume then that the 大象传媒's official stance is to oppose the proposed new midlands airport? That is certainly the impression given.

I am concrned about the local wildlife and the effects that such a huge site of redevelopment always brings upon already dwndling numbers of endangered species in Warwickshire.

Question. Has anyone opposed to the proposed new midlands airport ever flown? If yes, does that make them a hypocrite?

Rugby where house prices keep rising
I must say I agree with you all not wanting an Airport near to your homes. I live not too far away from B'ham Airport in another little village that has been affected by the current airport Hampton-in-Arden.
The expantion of the existing runways will blight two villages next to where I live and we are also going to try and defend our small piece of area from option two.
I dont think any of us should have to put up with having things like this thrown at us. So I wish you all well with your fight.
Oh and by the way Mathew York/Bilton B'ham Airport is actually in Solihull and not in the City of B'ham and I can assure you that apart from the Airport we too lead a very quite peaceful life.

A moment of humour was had on the subject today.
My wife and I were driving back from Leamington, and we went past countless "No airport here!!" signs.
Well, the temptation has proved to great, and I intend to put my own signs up (sorry Rugby Borough Council, but this isnt quite an "if you can't beat 'em join 'em") as additions to those that are up.
My addition is short and sweet:-
Read the document, it isn't here, it's at Church Lawford!
