As the shirt sponsor in the programme of Mo Konjic, I think I would be ideally suited to the manager's role because I am a comedy hypnotist and think I could work wonders with the team!

A very brave, but much needed decision by the board. The interview with the chairman was right on the button and he obviously feels as disapointed with the seasons end as we all do.
Lets hope they can now find the right person for the task ahead of rebuilding on a shoe string. The new man will have to be experienced in the lower leagues and have an eye for good honest hard working pro's.
My choice would be Bobby Gould with maybe help from a younger right hand man.
Gould may help bring in the aging but useful players we will no doupt be chasing.
Players like Dennis Wise, Gary Mcallister are two which come to mind.
Heres to a better future and good luck to all those that move on in the summer.

How about Mickey Adams for manager? I'm sure he'll leave Leicester.

A slight indication as to how bad things have got Turnstile operators are paid (pennies admittedly, but paid all the same) and they get to see the match for free. There are supposed to be 54 on duty on matchdays. Over recent games there have been around 30 to 35 - and only 25 versus Millwall. If people cannot be bothered to turn up when it doesn't cost them, how bad must things be?!
As for the sacking of Roly, the squad we have should have at least taken us into the play-offs - that they failed is a disgrace. That they failed because they appeared either not to give a damn, or not to have a clue, is even more of a disgrace.
Players are to powerful to take the blame, so something had to give. Maybe Roly was to nice .... I think the chairman knows who the next boss is already - Please! Not Joe Royle! (Nor Bryan Robson as you just mentioned!) - and he already has my sympathy!
My vote goes to anybody that makes Konjic captain, and signs Gary McSheffrey - to release him would be a stupid mistake!

I'm really surprised about the news this afternoon, but then again I must say that I had been completely disgusted with City's performances recently, but sacking the manager appeared unthinkable.
What this does show is that McGinnity is fairly ruthless, and I do feel that he's in touch with the fans' views.
I'm not too sure about a new manager, perhaps Nigel Clough would be effective??
Oh well, if it all goes wrong at City I can support Racing Club Warwick instead. Oh yeah, they're on the brink of relegation!

Nillson had no ability when it came to picking up on the mistakes made. Who was impressed with Hughes and Mills Lazy is the only word that can describe them. Yet they continue to play, and they continue to show no passion. This says to me a lack of managerial ability.
For weeks I have noted the lack of off the ball movement. Yet it seems to evade Nilsson's notice. Does the game look different from the dugout? He showed no passion from the dugout, and that will mean no passion anywhere else in the team.

Just a thought, a few of weeks ago Brian Little was sacked by Hull, I do not know if he has gone anywhere else. He has experience of big clubs and working at the bankrupt end of the league.
If he is not available we should look towards the likes of Ray Graydon and Joe Royle who have experience of "shoestring" budgets.
A lot of talk is linking a combination of Stuart Pearce and Nigel Clough each has some degree of management experience and as a combination it may just work.
Finally lets not totally rule out Bobby Gould, nobody in Coventry's history has unearthed more players than Bobby, he is gold dust at the side of the market and maybe this is this most important fact of all. With the potential player losses in the close season we will need six or seven players capable of holding a first team place.
Will George Graham or Walter Smith sign them? Yes but it will cost 25 million. Bobby Gould would get the lot for two hundred and fifty thousand. We need scrappers we need players who want to play for the sky blue shirt.
My ideal combination (given the financial restrictions) would be Stuart Pearce and Bobby Gould. Steel from SP to bring much need passion and gold nuggets from BG in the form of second and third division players who are prepared to run and fight till they drop.

The selling of ROBBIE KEANE was the first turning point the second was Hartson. I agree their was nobody more passionate than BOBBY GOULD and Stuart Pearce as his NO 2 .Just look at the team we could have played: KIRKLAND McALISTER HADGI BOETENG HUCKERBY KEANE HARTSON BELLAMY CARSLEY Need I say any more Was the Preston game the modern KINGS LYNN result?

I think the problem is motivation and the lack of it. They should find an entrance song that fires up the players and the crowd, stick with it and create a reputation for Coventry of intensity, passion and fight every minute of every match that was evidently lacking this season.

At least the chairman sounds like he means business, about all we've got going for us at this moment of time!

The sacking of the manager is not the biggest problem that we have, Roland has done a reasonable job with some pretty poor players. The biggest worry I have is where any new players will come from, we have no money, fans like myself will not be renewing their season ticket, and gates I am sure will be down next season.

Roland hasn't had what could be called "his team" but it was clear from the games that he had no tactical knowledge or insight to the players. Lee Mills and Lee Hughes are lazy, idle players and Nilsson thinks the sun shines out of their backside.
Since Christmas I have been saying there is no movement off the ball, but nothing is done. I can not imagine Nilsson or Smith having a go at the players, after 4-0 loss to Preston or otherwise. People say Strachan was bad, but he at least showed some passion.
If you looked at the dugout in a game then it is like the game is a funeral. No passion on the managemnt equals no passion on the field.

After talking at work with a WBA and an Ipswich fan, we felt that it would make more sense follow the way Notts Forest have gone about things. Teavor and Oggie have proven themselves in the youth set up, and it must be slightly easier and cheaper to then replace the youth management. Plus to save money CCFC need to rely on player coming up through the ranks and who better to do this than the team that have worked and acheive good results with them.

I completely agree with the sacking of Roland+Jim Smith simply because they were never goning to get us back into the Premier! But I think Bryan Robson has been out of the game long enough and we should do our best to get him in! what do u think?? he is a great manager who has done it before at middlesbrough and i think he would do it at Cov???

I didn't think Roland was the man for the job when the old chairman gave him the job and I'm really glad Jim Smith's gone because I don't feel he is the man for the job either. It's nice to think we could attract a big named manager to the club like George Graham, but its more likely that we should go for a lower division manager who wants to take the club up and prove himself ie: clough or ray gradon or even colin lee.
Also I've heard this week that Lee Hughes is off to West Brom for a disgraceful 拢2 millon. If this is true this is an absolute disgrace and a kick in the teeth for the fans for a player we paid 拢5 millon for. Also Thompson to the villa??? if that happens I for one and a lot of my friends will not be renewing my season ticket in fact if he leaves for anyoneI won't be going to watch next season, but in my eyes Dion Dublin would be welcome back with open arms at this club!!

NICE BLOKE, GREAT PLAYER, BUT I'M AFRAID THAT ROLAND JUST WASN'T UP TO THE JOB. W HILST HE BEMOANED INJURIES, SUSPENSION AND BAD LUCK, HE STILL CHANGED THE TEAM ABOUT WHEN HE HAD THE CHANCE TO KEEP A REASONABLY SETTLED SIDE.
HIS TACTICS WERE UNCLEAR TO BOTH PLAYERS AND SUPPORTERS!
THE STEPPING DOWN OF RICHARD MONEY WAS A CRUCIAL DECISION. WILL WE EVER KNOW THE REAL REASON BEHIND THAT MOVE?
THE NEW APPOINTMENT MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO ATTRACT PLAYERS(ESPECIALLY EXPERIENCED PROS), OTHERWISE WE WILL WALLOW IN THE LOWER LEAGUES FOR SOME CONSIDERABLE TIME.
ULTIMATELY, ROLAND HAS BEEN SERIOUSLY LET DOWN BY SOME MEDIOCRE PLAYERS .
WHO TO APPOINT...GOD KNOWS, BUT ANYBODY GOOD ENOUGH WILL NOT COME.

Good decision to remove Roland and Smith Although only a manager for eight months - Roland has been coach for over a season and in that time most of the players, especially the defence have got worse rather than better and there has been no organisation at all.
Even when we have won, you could never go home saying that it was an exciting game apart from a couple of games early season under Gordon.
Can you confirm my suspicion that we will have to enter the Worthless Cup at the 1st round next season ?
Possible replacement ? I'd love to see Macca back in some role - hopefully playing, George Graham must be good if we could get him - or a blast from the past although unlikely - Gordon Milne who is doing such a good job at Newcastle could do a great job for us.

In the the same way the team was not Nillson's choice Nillson was not chosen by Mr McGinnity. His chairmanship will be judged by what happens on the pitch and if he has no confidence in Neilson to deliver then unfortunately today was inevitable.
I have always admired Neilson and would like to wish him all the very best for the future.

There are only two suitable replacements for the manager's job, Ronnie Moore and Ray Graydon. Both have gone far on a shoestring budget and let's face it we have no more than that. Both have proven track records especially Ronnie Moore getting rotherham promopted from div 3 to 1 in succesive seasons.
John
Surprised but not shocked at todays news from CCFC. Roland is a super guy with the best legs in football but I'm not sure that he was strong or singleminded enough to be a manager. I wish him & his family well for the future.
Following on from your first caller, do either of you know what George Graham was doing at the match on Friday?
Why did Mr McGinnity in his statement today refer to the hooligan who ran onto the pitch at Preston as a FAN? I'm a fan and and have been for more years than I care to remember & will still support my team whatever happens. A true supporter would never have acted in the way that thug did!!

I believe that the signing of Lee Mills may have had a lot to do with it, in our financial situation the 拢250,000 miss spent on him coupled with the total lack of heart and desire showed by many of the over payed mercenaries on the books of the club have left the chairman with no choice but to make this decision.
I can understand the decision that has been made but still feel for Nillson and wish him well in the game for the future.
Lets go for a real manager this time not another novice player manager, possibly Walter Smith as he's used to working with no money and his style of football would work well in the first division.

A good decision. It was clear that Nilsson was too much of a gentleman to get results.
After every pathetic performance we heard no scalding of the players. Coventry need someone who will constantly demand performances and not give the players an inch. Someone in the mould of Gary Megson would be ideal.
Clive Eakin's suggestion that Nilsson should have been given a full season is naive. With no money the squad would have gotten worse - if he can't get results with the current squad, where would we finish with a poorer squad?
Rob
To be quite honest, as nice a man as Roland is, I think that this is the right decision. He, and Jim Smith, have not been able to get the best out of the players. With the exception of perhaps two or three players, the squad as a whole have not seemed to be interested and that comes down to a lack of motivation from the top.
The recent tactics and formations have been beyond belief. For example, we HAVE to win at Preston and we play one up front and that is not even the person most likely to score (Lee Hughes).
Against Millwall we play Trollope in centre midfield with Chippo out wide, surely the wrong way round. Then we go one down and he waits for an age before making any changes.
The players have definately let Roland down too. To prove this just compare Coventry to Brentford. This team is run by Steve Coppel, they are in the playoffs for their division, and the players have to take their own kit home to be washed. How many Coventry players can you see doing this?   I would like to see an experienced manager, like Ray Graydon or Ronnie Moore, in tandem with a younger manager, like McAllister or Nigel Clough along with Richard and/or Ray Clarke.

One name that hasn't been mentioned yet (apologies if it has )is Mick McCarthy. He may be worth talking to after the world cup as he might be looking for something new. he has proven he can produce the goods with a few Premiership players but even more Nationwide players and at International level. I would love to see the club approach him at the very least.

Jim Smith definately should have gone, but Roland should have stayed. Before Smith was appointed Coventry under Roland won 56% of the games when Jim Smith joined the club City won just winning just 7 games out of 19 games. Although is it the players or the manager to blame? Only Carlsley (who has now gone), Konjic, Thompson and Safri can hold their heads up after this season's rubbish.
The club now needs to move forward and I believe that Ray Graydon should now be appointed. Graydon has experience at a lower level and will motivate the players unlike the previous manager and is used to working to a tight budget.

This is officially the worst Coventry team of all time, the facts speak for themselves. City have entered a downward spiral. We need to get some pride back in our team by turning it into a COVENTRY team again. We have started to develop a good youth structure and we need to make sure these youngsters are given a chance to make it. A balance of local youth and experienced players is needed. We need a management team that has experience, wishes to play entertaining football and is willing to build a team for the future, not just next season. The two most successful teams recently: Man Utd and France have both prospered due to an investment in young players over a period of time.

I feel that the sacking of Roland Nilsson was a poor decision to make but i feel Jim Smith had to go. To all the supporters I know we were starting to wonder what he actually did at the club. I question the timing of the decision, I know that Burnley on Sunday is a fairly pointless game for us but wouldn't it have been better to wait till the end of the season before scking him. At least let him say his goodbyes.
I'm sure we would all like to have George Graham but as Geoff said we can't afford him. As long as we don't go for Dave Basset! My mates have also said Walter Smith, he has kept Everton in the premiership with about as much funds as we have had but i personally can see the club giving the job permanantly to Ogrizovic and Peake.
Sell Hughes,Joachim,Mills,Trollope,Keith O'Neil and get Flowers in on a free and bring the kids through although i will be sad to see Magnus go, i have met him in person and his is a really nice bloke i'm sure most teams we play against would love to have him in thier team. I would like to offer my support in this tough time he is going through.

We cannot afford a big name manager but these players need a disciplinarian and also a motivater let's go for Bobby Gould, somebody who loves the club and will encourage the home grown players. He also knows about every player that's ever worn a pair of football boots.
