Q. What do Buzz Lightyear, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Roseanne Barr and a bus travelling at 50mph all have in common?
A. Joss Whedon.
Joss Whedon: The Genius Behind Buffy is the first book to cover Joss Whedon’s entire career. Joss has become one of Hollywood’s hottest properties; he recently found himself producing three television series on three different networks (Buffy on UPN, Angel on WB, and Firefly on Fox), he wrote the popular Fray comic-book series, was Oscar nominated for the Toy Story screenplay, and has written or contributed to numerous films, including Speed, Alien Resurrection and X-Men.
But he is probably best known for the creation of the worldwide phenomenon, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. His inspiration for Buffy says Whedon, "came from seeing too many blondes [in horror movies] walking into dark alleyways and being killed. I wanted, just once, for her to fight back when the monster attacked and kick his ass."
Compiled with his full co-operation, this book covers his school days in England, via his first TV job writing Roseanne, all the way up to Buffy season seven. As well as interviewing Joss at length, author Candace Havens has talked to virtually every member of the Buffy and Angel cast and crew (including Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz), including obtaining an exclusive interview with Joss about the end of Buffy.
"This is possibly the finest book of the century! It’s exactly like A Tale of Two Cities, but with 30 percent more me." — Joss Whedon
