Episode Guide
Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered

Trivia

Evil Guitar: Oz's guitar is inscribed 'Sweet J', This could be a really subtle in-joke about Scott Evil's (Seth Green) best friend in Austin Powers - his name is Sweet J too. Or it could be a reference to 'Sweet Jane', the song by Lou Reed's Velvet Underground.

Buffy in her birthday suit: It's apt that it's Oz who finds the naked Buffy in the school basement, after her spell as a rat. It's a predicament he must find himself in often, as in 'Phases'.

Gods and Goddesses: As she casts her spell, Amy calls upon Diana as 'goddess of love and the hunt'. Oops. Diana was actually the Roman goddess of the hunt and protector of children. The goddess of love was Venus, unless you're talking about the ancient Greeks, in which case it was Aphrodite, with Artemis covering the hunting gig.

Valentine Schmalentine: "Valentine's Day is just a cheap gimmick to sell cards and chocolate" according to Buffy. Actually, the story goes like this: Valentine was a priest in Rome, who was persecuted under Claudius II. When the prefect of Rome couldn't make him renounce his faith, he sentenced him to be beheaded. That sentence was carried out on February 14. Lovely.

Scary lady: Amy also calls upon Hecate, the patron goddess of witchcraft. She is known in many different guises, including a young woman in a black robe holding torches, as three bodies standing back to back, and recently as a dark and evil ghost found haunting dark nights with terrifying hounds of hell.

The real Bewitched: Bewitched was a TV series aired in the 60’s and 70’s. It centred on the character of Samantha, a witch who fell in love with a mortal man and gave up the Craft to become an ordinary suburban housewife. However, Samantha was continually tempted to use her powers, invoked by a twitch of her nose, whenever she needed things to go her way.

Together Forever?: According to a love-spell website we found, real love spells are pretty easy to perform. Write both names on a piece of paper and burn the paper with the flame of a red candle whilst reciting a self penned love poem. This is a surefire way to capture your true love forever. (Cult accepts no responsibilty if it goes wrong and you end up falling in love with your Aunty Doris.)

Pill Popping: "She loved you before you invoked the great Roofie spirit." Buffy tells Xander. Roofie is the street name for Rohypnol, the so-called "date rape drug," which enhances the effect of alcohol and causes sleepiness and memory loss.

Double Trouble: Kristen Winnicki appears as a Cordette in this episode. We have previously seen her in Inca Mummy Girl, where she was credited as Gwen

Dingo Music: This is the first time since Inca Mummy Girl that we see Oz's band, Dingoes Ate My Baby, perform on stage.

Four legged Buffy: Human-into-animal transformation is the stuff of shamanic ritual and children's fairytales. In The Frog Prince, a Princess comes across a frog who is a Prince cast under a spell by a wicked fairy.

Rat on you: Amy herself can look forward to being turned into a rat in season three's Gingerbread, in order to save herself from a deluded mob of bloodthirsty parents.
