What started off as unusual ventured through amusing to, well, plain old Farscape.

The fact that the gang was linked to people you really wouldn't expect them to be linked to was startling. You would have thought, howwever, that this would have been a perfect opportunity to get some Aeryn and John communication going on.

There was a lot left hanging in the air and some things that didnt really gel - it would have made more sense to have the Chiana and technician subplot as the main story rather than the hijinks we got instead. Still, it was good to see new characters finding their places at last, and old enemies turning out to be good allies after all.

D'argo and Granny provided great humour and Aeryn and John seem to be working well together again. There were a lot of stand-alone comic moments, but overall it was not what Farscape does best. There was no raw emotion, no action and it was all so straightforward. That for me just ain’t Farscape!

I just had to stick my oar in to comment on this muscular mollusc of an episode. This story had everything a male reviewer could ask for: goo, women's lib, humorous one-liners and, of course, men in drag.

The premise of the story was a little weak, although this was more than made up for by the general chaos. There was also a good equality storyline, conducted with surprising and thought-provoking delicacy from what is usually an in-your-face romp of a show.

Complaints, however, must be voiced, so here are mine:

  1. The special effects budget did not extend past jelly for the molluscs.
  2. The gentleman's club looked like it would attract only blind, deaf and stupid gentlemen.
  3. The doctor looked like an overweight Wurzel Gummidge.
Aside from this it was good Farscape fare, with an interesting plot development as Scorpius risks his PVC-clad neck to save the gang.

Now, wasn’t that all a bit silly? Farscape goes for another gross-out episode of bodily function jokes. Thankfully they soon got bored with that, only to fall into a series of oddly assorted set pieces.

So before we look at the good, how about the bad. Did anyone believe the engineer was a bloke before the "reveal"? I don’t think so. And the woman playing the liberationists leader made Crichton in a frock look feminine. And our feisty PK caught out with a simple blow to the back of the head? I don’t think so here either.

Still it was worth it to see D’Argo and Granny bond for an episode. I’m really starting to like Noranti - she is uniquely alien and bizarre without being conventionally sci-fi based. There were other laughs as well, but, alas, not the green jelly used for the molluscs.

The Doctor gave a good performance, with some nicely disjointed dialogue. He was lucky that, unlike humans, he doesn’t have many capillaries close to the surface in his nose, or there’d have been blood everywhere once Rygel put the bite on.
