BACK AND BACK AND BACK TO THE FUTURE
By Babs Greyhosky
Directed by: Rowan Woods

DID YOU NOTICE?
The idea of repeatedly seeing a short way into the future and then trying to change it is similar to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's third season episode 'Visionary', where it was Miles O'Brien being flung about in time.

Repeating scenes from different angles and with different outcomes is also similar to Star Trek: The Next Generation's sixth season story 'Cause and Effect'.

We have to assume the flash-forward effect wears off because no steps were taken to cure Crichton of this.

Having a piece of a black hole in the middle of your ship also happened in the film Event Horizon, though there it was intended to be the ship's drive rather than a weapon.

The third time we see Crichton break Zhaan's ornamental mask he does so deliberately. But because Zhaan hasn't been time travelling like Crichton, as far as she's concerned this is the first time he's broken it. So from her point of view he's just chosen to smash her ornament for no reason. That might explain why she's a bit more easily exasperated at him in Throne for a Loss (shown here last week but intended to follow this one).

Everything Crichton sees in the future happens in one form or another, no matter how much he manages to change the outcome or where and when things happen - except for the very first thing he sees, which is himself having sex with Matala.

For the first time communications are displayed in the space usually kept for the hologram of Pilot.
