In the early hours of Wednesday, 20 May 2009, one of the most major changes in the history of healthcare in Derby took place. The Accident and Emergency department has moved from the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary to the Royal Derby superhospital in Mickleover. The switch took place at 2am to minimise inconvenience for people needing emergency treatment. The new department is four times the size of the A&E at the DRI and will treat around 105,000 adult and children patients per year. Bays are separated with walls rather than curtains to improve patient privacy and the department features a specially-designed room for patients who are close to death or who have just passed away. There's also an eight-bedded resuscitation area, three relatives' rooms and three dedicated room for minor procedures. Our video takes you on a tour of the new department - and you can also find out more about the hospital's choice of colour scheme using the link above. last updated: 21/05/2009 at 16:58 SEE ALSOYou are in: Derby > Places > Royal Stories > Video and Photos: The New A&E Derby Hospitals websiteThe 大象传媒 is not responsible for external websites |
