How
did you get into the music scene?
I
started playing piano when I was six and, to be honest, I hated
lots of it as I was just being made to do grade after grade.
I would try and play songs I'd heard on the radio or just make up
my own stuff. So in the end I gave it up (which I've regretted ever
since) and started to teach myself guitar instead.
So was childhood
a bit angst for you?
I was a very troubled teenager - but, hey, who isn't? I found that
songwriting was the only way to express all the feelings and emotions
I wasn't able to when speaking.

When
I was about 16 I started jamming with friends and other musicians
and really wanted to learn how to play drums. Not long after this,
I was walking past a skip when I spotted what looked like a severely
wrecked hi-hat cymbal - when I took a closer look there was a whole
kit in there!
It wasn't much - but enough to get me started.
And when I was 18 I started to learn bass guitar and gigging regularly
with local bands.
What's
the story of the track you've decided you want us to listen to?
I
originally wrote HAVE MY LOVE when I was 13. But I later recorded
an acoustic version of it with keys player, Jools O'Kelly. I added
it to my page on Soundclick.com and it went to number one in the
acoustic charts for seven weeks. The version I've given you to demo
is newly recorded with drum and bass.

So
you're not really a solo act then?
I work with two main musicians. One is Jools O'Kelly who plays piano
and keyboards, the other is guitarist and songwriter Luigi Langella.
What do you think
about the current live music scene in Devon?
I think it's sad there aren't as many venues around Devon that are
as open to live music as there used to be. Most of the good live
venues are miles away.
But you do still
get to gig around the area?
I've played some really good fun gigs up at the Castle Inn in Totnes,
but I think my favourite would have to be an outdoor gig in Lyme
Regis.
Jools and I had to go on top of this stupidly high and very dodgy
looking scaffolding which I wasn't too keen on as I'm scared of
heights. Not only that but we were playing opposite a butcher's
shop - and I'm vegetarian!
And just to top it all, as soon as we started playing it bucketed
it down with rain which seems to happen a lot when I do outdoor
gigs, maybe someone's trying to tell me something.........
