Tell
me about RED i... The
band was formed in 2000 and consists of Graham Winteridge (aka Win),
Dan Salter, Carl Haggerty and Sean Bennellick.
Win and Dan were originally in a band called Carrera but after a
while, when things were not progressing as they should, the band
split.
After six months Win and Dan decided to create another band. Dan
asked his mate Carl if he would jam with them. He did - and the
band started to take shape.
They
played several gigs using backing tracks before deciding to advertise
for a bass player. No decent candidate was found but then there
was a turn of fortune when Carl started dating a bird whose brother
could play the bass (or who would learn to play). Sean was the business
and was in the band within five minutes of listening to him play!
So
you're all Exeter lads then? Win was born in Exeter and now lives in Exmouth. He comes
from an entertainment based family - his dad is a ventriloquist
and his brother a comedy impressionist - and quite a funny one too!
Win's a former professional footballer who now prefers watching
his beloved Liverpool. He enjoys everything from surfing to driving
fast cars but he's most happy when he's playing with the band.
Carl's an Exeter man. Self taught on the guitar and a bit of a poet
- he's had four published. He loves travelling with his wife in
their 1972 VW campervan and has been to the US, Mexico, Peru, Morocco
and more recently spent a couple of months touring France and Ireland
on their honeymoon.
Drummer Dan was born and grew up in Exeter and loves the south west,
spending much of his time on the north coast, surfing. Dan's also
a member of the Exeter Street Heat Samba Band plus he's a Reggae
MC at The Cavern in Exeter.
And finally Sean, our Bassist. He's lived in Exeter all his life.
He enjoys surfing and travelling. He joined the band when he went
to his sister's engagement party and the other three guys were playing.
Carl was to be his future brother-in-law.
Which
three words best describe your music? Thoughtful,
well created.
And
where did the name RED i come from? We 'pinched' it after
playing in a London club called RED i.
