Devon chats to lead vocalist with The Climb, Andrea Barber.
Why
The Climb?
We
wanted a
name that had 'The' in the title. The Climb seemed like a good,
simple rock name. It also describes the struggle to get your band
noticed.
How
would you describe your music in just three words?
Original, intelligent, varied.
You've been gigging for some time now and
you also featured on ITV's "The Base"....
Playing live in the studio on The Base was pretty cool. And we recently
played on the back of two lorries in a field in Tedburn - that was
a terrific gig. There were about 400 people there watching us. Everyone
had a fantastic night!

Tell
us about the track you've decided to demo, "No Goodbye"....
It's one of those songs that people always seem to enthuse about
at gigs.
Probably because it's quite distinctive and unusual sounding. We
love playing it live.
Who's
who in the band?
I'm Andrea Barber, singer, rhythm guitarist and all round decision
maker. I work for the band full time.
Duane Pearson's the bass player. Five strings though, not your ordinary
boring four string stuff!
Pete number one (Peter Hodgson) is the guitarist and Pete two (Peter
Firth) is the drummer. Pete three is Chris, the sound engineer and
then there's Nigel, our roadie.
What do you think of the current music scene?
It's a real mixed bag at the moment, indie,
punk, People have generally come to accept that it's ok to have
manufactured pop acts who release naff songs and mime.
There are thousands of talented bands out there who write stonking
songs and who play live, but never get that break because the industry
people in charge can make money from talentless pop acts. It's just
not right!
Are you all hoping for fame?
None of us are looking for fame. We just want the opportunity
to play professionally as a band. We all want to travel and it would
be great to gig in other countries. We write songs for ourselves
but if other people buy and enjoy our album, that's a huge compliment.
We're looking for national gigs now, so we can reach a wider audience.
We're also on the search for management to give us a hand in the
right direction.
Meantime we'll keep rehearsing, gigging, writing and promoting until
we get somewhere.
