大象传媒 Radio Devon reporter Jo Bishop has completed the second week of her walk around Devon in aid of the radio station's Chestnut Appeal.

Jo, who is Radio Devon's East Devon reporter, set off on Saturday 30th August and her walk is due to finish on 26th September.

In the second of our weekly walks with Jo, we caught up with her on Day 14, Friday 12th September.

We were at the Devon-Somerset border, walking along the Grand Western Canal between Holcombe Rogus and Burlescombe.

Jo then finished the day's walk by crossing the bridge over a very congested M5! This was the half-way mark of her walk - both in terms of time and distance.

During the second week, Jo has passed through lots of little hamlets - and the welcome she's received has been one of the highlights of the walk.

"I've been completely overwhelmed by the way people have come out to meet me and join me on sections of the walk.

"People have been so kind, and it's been great to visit these tucked away little places."

The toughest day of the second week was Monday, when Jo walked more than 20 miles from Combe Martin to Malmeshead, via Lynton and Lynmouth.

And she says there's more of the same ahead: "There are parts of the coast path in east Devon which are quite tough, and I've got that to look forward to early next week," said Jo.

So far, the weather has been unbelievably kind - and Jo's keeping her fingers crossed it stays that way!

Jo, who is doing the walk with her dog Bella and with back up support from her father, hopes to raise thousands of pounds for the Chestnut Appeal.

The appeal is raising money for a unit at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth to treat patients with prostate cancer.

As of today (13th September 2003), the 大象传媒 Radio Devon Chestnut Appeal has reached just over 拢200,000. The target is 拢1 million.
