the fat? VOICES is the largest ever celebration of the way the people of
the British Isles speak today. From Aberdeen to Ashburton, there is a rich
range of words to describe the simplest of things. |
We want you
to share your thoughts on the way we talk in Devon.
We're launching a project all about language, accents and dialects across
the British Isles and want you to share your thoughts on the way we talk
across the county.
Never mind the difference in dialect from Scotland to Ireland, England
to Wales - here in Devon we know the meaning of words change from north
to south and east to west of the county.

Venture a
little further afield, just across the Tamar bridge say, and it's all
change yet again.
Tell us about how you speak!
Nationally, the 大象传媒 will be comparing and contrasting the sounds of the
nation. Here on the 大象传媒 Devon website we'll be concentrating on our own
little piece of England.
You can help by telling us about your favourite words and colloquialisms.
We've a message board where you can swap thoughts with other users, local
Devon dialect expert John Germon offers you some tuition in the art of
speaking 'like wot we duz' and there's a quiz you can play to test your
knowledge of words used.
Voices is the biggest-ever survey of how we speak. From January 2005,
you can take part and add your voice to the picture.
