Derek in the Den
Some ideas just never take off in the Den and Derek's is one of them.
The Hackney-based inventor presents his ambitious proposal to revolutionalise Britain's 80 year old Highway Code to five incredulous Dragons.
Peter Jones is flabbergasted to discover Derek has already invested £24,000 of his own money in the project while Deborah Meaden is amazed that he has already sought and failed to get approval from a leading UK authority on traffic signals.
Duncan delivers his verdict
When Theo Paphitis asks how he will get a return on his £50,000 investment the entrepreneur claims he has a patent that covers his flashing lights and their deployment for road safety applications. Theo simply doesn't believe him.
Dismissing the idea as "ridiculous", Peter Jones disputes Derek's claim that the signs are a road safety measure, speculating that they could prove a distracting hazard instead. Peter is out.
The other four Dragons quickly follow suit, with Duncan Bannatyne delivering the coup de grace, declaring Derek's idea "the worst invention ever to be brought into Dragons' Den".
The deal done in the Den:
No investment.
