Concert Information
Play me some village music" declared Antonin Dvorák at the height of his fame. "That's what I like". And at the heart of the lovely slow movement of his Eighth Symphony, that's exactly what he composed: a moment of sheer, unaffected happiness at the heart of a symphony that brims over with affection and joy. It's a delightful showcase for the "tremendous" (The Herald) young British conductor Alpesh Chauhan, and it'll strike sparks off the uproarious jazz stylings of Malcolm Arnold's Second Clarinet Concerto, played here by ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 3 New Generation Artist Annelien Van Wauwe. A romantic string miniature by Mendelssohn and Mozart's Overture: The Magic Flute, complete the festivities.
To be recorded for future broadcast on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 3.
Pre-Concert Talk (6.45pm): Alpesh Chauhan talks about some of the works featured in tonight’s programme, and about his life as a conductor – in conversation with Alex Gascoine (free to ticket-holders).
