US songwriters tackle epic British ballads

American artists rarely get a look-in when it comes to these award nominations but, having been shortlisted in Glasgow last year for best original song, Ana茂s Mitchell returns to the Folk Awards, this time in partnership with guitarist singer Jefferson Hamer

A captivating live performer, Ana茂s is noted for her colourful narrative songs, which she attributes to the scary stories she discovered in the books of old ballads that she devoured as a child.

Discovering that Jefferson shared her love of Celtic and British ballads, they collaborated on the recordings that became Child Ballads - now nominated as Best Album and featuring a selection of nineteenth century songs originally compiled by collector Sir Francis James Child.

Following their 2013 session for Mark Radcliffe we're thrilled to have them performing at this year's awards.
