The concert begins with Schumann鈥檚 only opera 鈥揋enoveva: Overture. The orchestra then performs two masterpieces, both inspired by the unsuccessful love stories of their composers: Mahler鈥檚 autobiographical Songs of a Wayfarer and Tchaikovsky鈥檚 Symphony No. 5.
