Imagine...it鈥檚 1805 and Beethoven drops a ground-breaking symphony dedicated to the hero of his time, Napoleon.
With two explosive chords, Beethoven鈥檚 Eroica symphony launched a new era for music and created a world of limitless sonic potential. It鈥檚 revolutionary in every sense, and for our Chief Conductor Ryan Wigglesworth 鈥 a composer himself 鈥 it鈥檚 the natural culmination of a concert filled with sounds that stretch the bounds of possibility. The poetry of Georg Trakl finds a wordless voice in Donghoon Shin鈥檚 wild and wonderful new cello concerto (and the young South Korean cellist Jaemin Han has been described as 鈥渁 staggering talent鈥). The late Harrison Birtwistle, meanwhile, dives deep into nocturnal melancholy, and finds both terror and beauty: a potent tribute, in what would have been Birtwistle鈥檚 90th birthday year.
This concert ends at approximately 9:40pm
