Mercury-nominated for Kate Tempest is a poet, spoken word artist and playwright from Brockley, South East London.
Her first performance was at a spoken word club in Carnaby Street at the age of 16 which led to her supporting the likes of Billy Bragg, and Scroobius Pip.
Inspired by Samuel Beckett and the Wu-Tang Clang, she won the Ted Hughes Award for Brand New Ancients in 2013.
Her 2014 album Everybody Down has been lauded for its youthful passion, and bold portrayal of hard-hotting topics, utilising poetry and hip hop in stunningly beautiful ways.
