Survivors of more music scenes than they probably care to remember, The Charlatans are back with Modern Nature, their first album since 2010 and their first since the untimely death of drummer Jon Brookes. Tracks So Oh, Come Home Baby and Talking in Tones have already become 6 Music favourites over the last few months.
The band first came to prominence with the UK Top Ten single The Only One I Know in 1990, and quickly became associated with the Madchester indie acts of the time, such as The Stone Roses, The Happy Mondays and Inspiral Carpets.
While many of their peers fell by the wayside, The Charlatans have continued making music througout the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. They again found themselves lumped together with a music scene in the mid-90s when Britpop reached its height at the time of their self-titled fourth album and follow-up Tellin' Stories, which provided the biggest hits of their career.
Frontman Tim Burgess has also released two solo albums and collaborated several times with The Chemical Brothers, as well as providing vocals on Saint Etienne's festive hit I Was Born On Christmas Day.
Tim's no stranger to 6 Music, having presented several programmes for us, but he'll be returning to more familiar territory when the band take to the stage at this year's 6 Music Festival.
