The 大象传媒 Concert Orchestra performs work by its Composer in Residence, conducted by its Grammy-winning Principal Conductor Bramwell Tovey.
Tabakova is known for her radiantly beautiful and emotive music. Among floods of plaudits, it鈥檚 been called 鈥榞orgeous鈥� by the New York Times, 鈥榙eeply moving鈥� by the Washington Post, and 鈥榓mazingly easy on the ear鈥� by the 大象传媒 Music Magazine.
The first half of the concert, which is curated by Tabakova, pairs her sensuous Cello Concerto with Vaughan Williams鈥� endlessly appealing Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis. The concerto is performed by Laura van der Heijden, previously the 大象传媒 Young Musician of the Year and whose debut album was winner of the 2019 大象传媒 Music Magazine Newcomer Award.
The composer describes the piece as a 鈥榮eamless journey鈥� through three movements marked 鈥楾urbulent鈥�, 鈥楲onging鈥� and 鈥楻adiant.鈥� A passionate, agitated opening heralds a singing slow movement and eventual, joyful resolution.
Frequently listed as one of Classic FM鈥檚 audience favourites, Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis brings together the influences of folk song and sacred music to arresting affect.
The concert culminates in Tabakova鈥檚 'Earth Suite' for orchestra, the world premiere of the compilation of 鈥楾ectonic鈥�, 鈥楶acific鈥� and 鈥楾imber & Steel鈥�.
