´óÏó´«Ã½ Plus Family: LutosÅ‚awski
´óÏó´«Ã½ SO PLUS FAMILY is a series of free interactive, family-friendly workshops which introduce the music of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ SO concerts at the Barbican, including a £5 ticket offer (plus booking fee*) for the evening concert. Workshops take place 6.00pm-7.00pm in the Fountain Room, before the main evening concert at 7.30pm.
There are not one but two concertos to enjoy in this concert. Beethoven’s majestic Piano Concerto No.5 is one of his finest, nicknamed the ‘Emperor’ Concerto because of its grand, heroic character. And there’s a colourful concerto for the whole orchestra written by Polish composer Lutosławski. American composer Christopher Rouse’s piece, Prospero’s Rooms, was first performed last year, and was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s dark tale of the vain Prince Prospero who throws a masked ball, with unexpected results…

Suitable for newcomers and music fans alike. If you play an instrument, bring it along as there will be an opportunity for you to join in. For families or school groups with children between the ages of 8 and 16. At least one of your group must be aged 16 or under. These concerts are not recommended for children under the age of 8.
