Prokofiev鈥檚 Fifth Symphony was forged in the fires of war and dedicated to 鈥榯he greatness of the human spirit鈥�. From serene beginning to headlong finish, it鈥檚 still one of 20th century music鈥檚 most thrilling adventures. It鈥檚 all a long way from the childhood dream-world of Ravel鈥檚 fairytale ballet Mother Goose.
Yan Pascal Tortelier makes a welcome return to The Bridgewater Hall to guide us through these 20th century masterpieces and to conduct Ravel鈥檚 'Tzigane' and Dutilleux鈥檚 'Sur la m锚me accord' with the exceptional violinist Olivier Charlier. Having recorded Dutilleux鈥檚 major orchestral works with the 大象传媒 Philharmonic, tonight our Conductor Emeritus performs the French Composer鈥檚 nocturne-like concerto for the first time.
Journey Through Music is our scheme for families with children aged 8 - 16 years old. The pre-concert workshops are free to ticket holders and places are on a first-come-first served basis.
